Hmm... Can anyone figure out if this 18:45 event has draft enabled?

https://zwiftpower.com/events.php?zid=3870174

It does say it allows all bike types BUT the start looks like it's the conveyor belt.

I thought drafting was disabled for all ITT races by default, and this is definitley categorised as an ITT so on that basis drafting should be OFF. However, if you go on https://zwifthacks.com/app/events/ this particular event isn't tagged as "No Drafting" (something you can filter results by) whilst most other ITTs are. I don't know if that's meaningful or not though!

I've ridden loads of these Bologna events and I'm pretty sure I've never noticed any drafting. Starts are definitely on the conveyor. You're not likely to catch anyone that you want to draft off on the first bit, and the hill is so steep that the draft is negligible unless you're in a really big group.

You gunning for a sub-17, Pete?

Yes, very confusing. I looked on ZP and it wasn't tagged as 'no draft' there either.

That said, as noted, it is an ITT and has the conveyor at the start... So even if drafting is enabled, you'd only get the benefit for a moment, when catching someone (IF you catch someone). On that basis, it'll be a TT setup for me.

I do plan to go all out, @Legs. Not sure what time to hope for, honestly - will try to stick to my usual power plan and see how it goes (it suggest doing the whole hill at 5W/kg - not sure I can do that). We did the TTT yesterday, so I'm a bit fatigued - but with the FRR series coming up, I figured I need some back-to-back race days. Hoping to do a very long warm-up beforehand.

Here is us looking pretty well drilled over the final mile:

Onwards to Round 2!!

I'm currently using the Sauce for Zwift add on as I enjoy the extra info about groups and draft etc when racing the ZRL. What the draft has shown me in TTTs is the improtance of trying to keep in a single line behind riders. When a rider moves alongside you from behind you get pushed to one side and lose most or all of your draft from the rider in front. Here's a couple of screenshots to show what I mean - as you can see the draft goes from 134 right down to just 35 when Martin comes alongside me and I'm moved to the left. I have to increase power to maintain my speed and get back on Peter's wheel which is obviously a waste of precious energy! I'm not blaming Martin by the way - we don't have brakes so it's impossible to some extent to stop this happening (I inadvertently did it to others too), especially when the terrain is up and down. But it's worth being aware of and aiming for a neat single line of riders as best you can for maximum efficiency and speed

I am looking into running that on my iPad - I think there is a way but keep forgetting to sort.

That difference in draft is crazy!!

I believe it is possible to use it on ipad (and Apple TV) but it does require you to have a seperate laptop or PC also running so I don't know how practical that is

That Sauce feature showing the Draft is really helpful innit. Zwift should really make that part of the available display.

My best up there is 349W at 73kg ~ 4.78W/kg for 8:07. 5W/kg would see you FLY up!

That's worrying

My 5W/kg PB stands at 6:07, which falls short of the plan. But Golden Cheetah does say that my theoretical time at that power should be around 07:15, which may prove enough for the climb. But it's all theory, right? I won't know unless I try ;) Thing with that hill is that even if you fail you feel like a winner.

Yeah, especially because Zwift (unlike Bkool for example) doesn't give you any physical feedback on the draft you're getting, there are times when it can be really useful.

I too was using Sauce and was trying to use my steering to get me back in line for maximum draft. It has become second nature now to use steering, I find it odd not to have it enabled in races

Managed 4.97 for 8 minutes, which got me up the hill.

Time on the flat was 8:45 though, so room for improvement there.

By the way, just a reminder that this:

Is starting day after tomorrow. Looks like it will be massive - more than twice the number of participants from last year (1700+). Rider count for each of the Saturday slots is already well over 200. Competition will be fierce! :hyper:

That is awesome. I was struck by how clear-cut your power segments are. How do you maintain such steady power? Just think how much faster you'd have gone if you'd deployed your 400W on the 16% bit!

Mine are nowhere near as disciplined:

Because I'm really sad, I've got a little record of all my TT splits on Bologna (from the Strava segments)

My best 7-minute power is 389W at 5.4W/kg on the Volcano, but that was an isolated effort - I think I'd need about 12 minutes to do that flat bit and arrive rested enough to do that!

Whenever it's a matter of putting your head down and sticking to a power plan, I can control my watts very precisely - as long as I don't fade, of course. Whether it's a Bologna TT, an attempt up the Alpe, or even a Z2 ride - it'll be very disciplined, steady.

This TT:

Also Bologna, from a year ago:

PR up the Alpe:

So your PB is 16:32? I've got that in my sight

I really want to take part in this but some flu symptoms this week mean, having fallen behind, i will be doing 2 back to back training sessions tomorrow and the first is a bit tough. I will see how recovery is saturday morning.
