Did the Volcano in 7:37. Quite happy, considering current levels of fitness. Just 7s off PB :okay:

Was it planned?

Last night's road race didn't go as expected.

I warmed up well and felt good as we set off. As instructed by Roy, I attacked early on - about 2/3 of the way into the first lap. I got a gap and one guy came with me - but we sat up as the pack was working well to chase us down.

We joined and as I was thinking about attack #2 a racer from the earlier race was waving at us to stop - there had been a bad crash in his race and the road was blocked waiting for the ambulance. End of race. Hope the injured guy is ok.

For future reference, and it took me until mid evening to figure this out, we can all still chat on discord if the cc server goes down.

After about 6 hours offline I was thinking "I don't know how to contact any of these guys. Perhaps I can leave a comment on someone's Strava. And then I remembered the discord."

First steering race yesterday. It was a ladder race. Didn't finish very well (9/10 - got dropped carelessly in the last 800m).

I found the steering to be quite useful on twisty bits for getting ahead. After 20km I'd done 200m less than the guys without steering (so had 2 of my steering-enabled team-mates). I also found that the level of mental effort required to steer constantly was much higher than I expected which made it more tiring. (Also much harder to "just sit in and draft"). Perhaps this will become the new normal and settle down as I get used to it? (Probably doing double Bologna the day before didn't help my outcome )

Didn't have the ability to surge and tease the pack. I did shuffle to the inside on most corners or at least got central in the leaders. I used the steering well up Libby and it gained me quite a few places.

More importantly lungs didn't retreat into an asthma attack during or afterwards.
