Shouting out some of the guys who have taken part in only some of the rounds so far, to see if they are interested in doing one more race.

@bridgy, @Milzy, @IrishAl (though maybe I shouldn't want him to take part as he's only 2:42 behind me on the standings!), @Brusgaard, @BurningLegs, @Noodle Legs.

Remember if you can't make any of the currently scheduled events then I'm open to adding in further dates and times. There are currently three set up at present - Tuesday, new at 10:30, plus 19:00 as usual & Thursday now at 18:30, though the timing of that last one can still be adjusted if people require.

Steve. Thanks for the offer but I’m a maybe - away with work a few nights this week (Brussels anyone?). If next week then I should be able to make it.

I’ve signed up for the TT tomorrow but there’s a chance I’ll miss the 7pm start - 7pm just a bit early for me tomorrow.

You can specify the crank length on the Garmin head unit (at least I can on my Edge 810) so if you need to double the recorded power output then set the crank length to double what it really is (I found this out by accident when o did a master reset on my edge last year - the crank defaulted to something really short and my power numbers went really low) I couldn’t figure out what the issue was - from blaming my legs being really bad to almost throwing the pedals out. Thankfully I found the crank setting after some serious googling. 🙈
Talking about thinking outside of the box! Thanks, Al.

I've manged to sort it out now but it was a bit of a pain. Turns out, the 50% power 'error' only happens when the pedal is connect to the head unit via Bluetooth. If you force it to do it via Ant+, everything works and power numbers are accurate. Not easy to force it though - but once you manage to do it the head unit will remember the connectivity method and pick up the Ant+ straight away.

So yeah, turns out you can effectively use the DUO as two UNOs (including single sided right) - but it's a bit of a bodge.

Ultimate verification would be to record an entire ride on both the Wattbike and this setup, and then compare the data. I think there's some sort of tool for doing that on the DCRainmaker website? Anyone used it?

Never a true word 👍

Actually is there a way to align the difference between power meters?

After all it's just a number that you want to be consistent from indoors to outside
If the Assioma pedals are out of whack, the app allows you to fine-tune the reading in increments of 0.05%. I imagine other power meters allow for this too? Not sure how would you do the same with an indoor trainer - send it to the manufacturer for recalibration?

Gp Lama and DCR say the assioma’s are the most accurate and reliable PM.

Correct, they should be the 'gold standard'. I was just giving an example of what the manufacturer's app allows you to do. Presumably, all other brands do something similar?

That's kind of absurd really, isn't it! Who can actually say with any confidence that any given PM is inaccurate by 1% never mind 0.05%?! I suspect there are a lot of engineering or scientific labs that might even shy away from 0.05% accuracy.

Oh, absolutely. It's 0.5W for a 1000W sprint  The PM itself has a stated accuracy of +/-1% so 20 times that.

It's very unlikely to be the same indoors and outside though. When I first got my trainer I was gobsmacked at how my indoor numbers were about 30% (or 30 watts?) less than outside, so I looked it up. There was a really good article on TrainerRoad about it. I'll see if I can find it. But essentially, if you're not used to indoor, 30w lower is perfectly normal because of static position, fewer muscles used and inability to rock the bike etc.

This isn't the one, but similar https://www.trainingpeaks.com/blog/adjusting-your-functional-threshold-power-for-indoor-riding/

This is a snip of some of my numbers from my late NEO2, current KICKR6 and the Assiomas. Keep in mind I'm around 90 kg, so a 30w difference at 5sec, doesn't mean much extra speed.

Sitting in the hot seat with 24:22.7 - very annoying how the ticker time and the race time aren't the same. On the ticker I beat 24m by 4s.
Well there's your time to beat so far, if you exclude my test run of course.

Yeah, I forgot how long it can take to get out of the pens to the line where the clock in the top corner starts ticking, though your time at the finish does include this extra bit as well. For that reason I've revised my test run time (which I'm using as a pace guide when I do my proper attempt on Thursday) to 24:58.
