Thanks for all the answers. Much support for the Assioma's. Looks like one can get the Uno and if you feel like upgrading to Duo that's entirely doable. Plus, as Bob said, there is an option of taking out the spindle and fitting a SPD body.

I'm not at all in a hurry so will look around for bargains/sales.

If you buy direct from Favero in Italy, the Assioma is quite a bit less. I think that's maybe what I'd get now since the Garmin stuff seems to have got silly priced.

I find my outdoor power significantly higher than indoor - particularly for punchy sprinty climbs.
But yes I think it depends on what you're going to use the data for.

It's also useful for general data collection so you can see why that club A-ride was harder than last week's.
And you finally get realistic Calories burned data because they can't obfuscate it when you're measuring the actual work done
(mine halved overnight from the Edge-only guesstimate when I got the power meter). Also proper TSS etc.

Yeah, great data when using Intervals.

Remembering I'm mechanically/technically inept ... how difficult is it to do the conversion

And remember, my preferred tool of choice is the brummie screwdriver!
Well, they sell you the pedal spindle, so it's as difficult as replacement/maintenance of that part. I'm sure you've done it many times by the sound of it ;) You just unscrew the center part of the pedal and screw the new one in. As easy as screwing

Maybe not bad deal if the increased q-factor doesn’t mind. Shimano Ultegra pedal’s q-factor is 50-54mm and with Shi-Duo kit it’s +64mm.
The difference in Q-factor between my trainer and my road bike is over 30mm and I can't tell the difference, Juha. There's no way anyone could feel a 10mm difference.

That's what she said!

What’s this Q factor measurement. Never heard of it?

I’m another Assioma (uno) user on my outdoor bikes. I’d say it’s much easier to swap across between bikes compared to a crank / chainring type and (slightly) less risk of the pedal unscrewing itself compared to crank coming off mid-ride (yes happened to a pal of mine mid-TT)

Pedal’s Q-factor is measurement what tell’s the pedal’s distance when they are attached to crank.

Isn’t it different between bike types? Eg. Mountain bike v road bike. And also turbo bikes? I think Atom is widest at 160 so v close. No doubt some people will feel or sense the difference but I reckon most won’t.

It’s a Assioma’s 13mm sensor part what increase the Q-factor. Human’s body is adaptable but some says that Q-factor can cause knee alignment problems, but also maybe not. Could be individual issue.

I had the look keo cleat version and it didn’t make my well documented knee issues worse but then the shimano version is wider.

Maybe that’s why Assioma originally did Look compatible power pedals. Gplama have a video when he tested this Duo-Shi kit. I would link the video but i am at a work now and i am bit of butter finger with this phone.
