Fascinating little animals.

You can train them so that when you call their name from the pain cave, they'll bring you sweets, cold water and a fresh towel.

Not to mention you get to play with LEGOs again. That was my main motivation.

Nope, I'm not sold.

As Rach would say .... germ spreaders 🤣

On the topic of selling... After 15 months, I came to the conclusion that I'll likely carry on cycling for the foreseeable future.

Thinking of getting my first pair of power meter pedals (SPD-SL). Don't have to be ultra precise - as long as I know whether I'm doing 240 or 270 watts up a hill should be enough. Looking for something of good value.

I know I can just ask on the open forum, but would anyone here have a recommendation? Or better still, a used pair they're looking to get rid of?

Went through this painful process in Feb 2020, but rather glad I did. I ended up getting a single-sided Garmin Vector 3, which also meant I needed new road shoes (previously been using SPD MTB shoes). Managed to get myself sorted for about £400 all-in though. Hate to think what it would cost now

But. All that LOVELY data  Seriously - without power data you're firing blind. (I don't look at it routinely while riding - except TT or workouts - but you're building a whole stack of performance data to refer to and can do workouts outside too).

The Assioma faveros are highly recommended in our club as far as pedals go. Happy with my Vector. I've used it on three different bikes just testing how they perform, but I won't do a Cx race with road shoes on, so I don't have power data for those.

Assioma’s.
Single or double.
There’s a reason GPlama etc use for comparison.
Great after sales and readily available spares. And option to cheaply convert to spd if that takes your fancy.

I have Powertap pedals which are good but if I bought new now I'd probably go for the Assiomas. I resisted getting a powermeter for years but I'd hate to lose it now.

@Peter Salt do you switch between road and mtb pedals for outdoor rides? If so, maybe pedals aren’t the best choice for you?

I have this issue so I went for a crank arm. It is cheap and accurate (obviously not as accurate as dual sided but it’d be fine for what you described). I have bought two 4iiii precision’s now, one for £200 before lockdown and the other for £220 a few months ago. Would recommend 👍

Spooky ... I was going to ask this too ... I have SPD pedals so was going to ask if there are viable SPD power meter pedals now?

I think the newer Garmin one is SPD compatible or you can get SPD bodies for it. £600 for single-sided though (or a grand for double ).
You could get almost three of Nick's 4iiii for 3 bikes for that money. I did look at the crank-arm ones, but most of my bikes are Specialized, which don't tend to use Shimano crank arms, which makes it harder.

My ten cents worth: I have a Stages crank on my road bike, nothing on my gravel bike. I find the Stages cheap, reliable and hassle free. I have thought about pedals but didn't want to pay a grand for something just to tell me how many watts I am doing. I also don't need to swap between bikes as I have just one road bike.

Power on the road is great for comparisons to Zwift but I think it comes into its own if you are doing power specific training.

I don't train per se on the road, I predominantly use an ebike for local rides upto 40-50 miles. I find if I want to build endurance or saddle fitness, 3+ hours on Zwift is plenty, I can have all my food and drink laid out next to me listening to music or watching a film

I find my outdoor power significantly higher than indoor - particularly for punchy sprinty climbs.
But yes I think it depends on what you're going to use the data for.

It's also useful for general data collection so you can see why that club A-ride was harder than last week's.
And you finally get realistic Calories burned data because they can't obfuscate it when you're measuring the actual work done
(mine halved overnight from the Edge-only guesstimate when I got the power meter). Also proper TSS etc.
