I’ve spent many hours in soho, and many hours here. And I can say unequivocally which experience has been the most surreal!

So it seems that people want me to go ahead and pick some courses for Tour de Splitters v3 then. Of course this means I will almost certainly make some people very unhappy, possibly even all of you, so I decided to leave it to the fates - randomised course selection! That way if you don't like the results then it's a lot harder to blame me - not impossible, but certainly harder.

I put all the known Zwift courses into a hat and pulled a handful of them out (of course I didn't really - I used an Excel spreadsheet and the RAND function) to see what we ended up with. The aim was to keep the races in the 40-50 minute range, so that if a chosen course was a short one we could do multiple laps, while if it was a long one we could always have a custom finish line before the proper end.

And the selection that came out was rather fun I thought. There were two super-short courses, which made me think that they might be very suitable for a back-to-back Tiny Races style event; one that was a little short but we could extend to 1 1/2 laps; one that was just right (plus it was a course VERY familiar to us from previous events); and one very long one but it had an obvious place we could set the finish line at to make it about the right length.

Now these courses and distances aren't finalised - I am willing to listen to feedback and make changes, but it does give you an idea of roughly what I'm thinking of.

Back-to-back race:
2 laps of Mech Isle Loop (Makuri Islands), 2.5 miles each, total 5 miles
then about 20 minutes after the first race started
2 laps of Queens Highway (Yorkshire), 1.8 miles each plus 1.6 mile lead-in, total 5.2 miles

Normal courses (e.g. one a week):
Eastern Eight (Watopia), but finishing at the Reverse Fuego Flats banner, about 19.5 miles into the segment, plus 1.4 lead-in, total 20.9 miles
London Loop Reverse (London, duh), but finish at the Fox Hill banner on Lap 2, total 12.5 miles
Figure 8 Reverse (Watopia), 1 lap, total 18.6 miles

None of them are completely flat courses - Eastern Eight is the nearest you get as it sends you through the desert in both directions (which is why the course is the longest, cause it's going to be fast), but you do have Titans Grove in the middle to split things up. Even the two short courses either have a hill (Mech Island) or are just a bit lumpy (Queens Highway) and I've given London Loop a hilltop finish, so everyone is going to be unhappy with me!

Let the picking apart of the choices begin...

They don't make it easy to complain to DPD. I've got a case number collated all my evidence

It won't be cheap, a quick look, posts cost around £250+ labour to remove stump and reinstall, post mix, looking at £600-800 all in

Sounds great Steve, although you could knock that final hill off on the London Loop if you liked...
