OK. That game I mentioned regarding TdZ. I just played it and decided to see if anyone else wants to.

The idea is this. Get the highest "improvement" in position that you can during a TdZ stage and report it here, ideally with a screenshot of your highest and lowest positions. It can be any stage, any length and if enough people want to play we can do a "GC" table of stages. If nobody wants to play, I win. What's not to like? If you tag me, I will collate the results.

So I started pretty much right at the back of a C ride. Logged in with about 1.5 minutes to go before the start. Starting screenshot position 718, best screenshot 109. I didn't quite make the top 100. Was fun though. A few gaps but mostly drafting through riders for 20 minutes
So Stage 1. 609 is the number to beat.

Hello! New to this thread and new to zwift. Santa bought me a trainer 😁 I’m really enjoying it so far.

Question about distances. I’m always surprised at the distance zwift says I’ve travelled. I definitely feel like I work harder on Zwift than I do outside, I push harder. But the Zwift mileage looks very generous. Any thoughts?

Hi Cathryn, welcome to the thread!

Maybe some of that is down to the added draft you most likely get on zwift compared to the real world?

Having said that, Santa is an expert in travelling long distances in a short space of time, so maybe he added a little something to your trainer (Sorry, I know that’s awful. And yet knowing that, I’m still about to press the post button…)

What sort of trainer is it? If it's a wheel-on trainer it might be reading rather generously.

I find on free-rides I'd probably be a bit faster on Zwift than in real life, but it's not stupidly far out.

It’s a tacx, we’ve taken off the back wheel and attached the frame to the trainer.

If it's a wheel off Tacx, I very much doubt there is a problem. Zwift works out speed from power therefore distance too.

If you don't know, Zwift sets wind resistance at zero when riding alone, so your speed will be a little quicker than outdoors. When riding in a group the speed can be alot faster hence cover more distance.

Hello! Glad you came over :okay:

On the distance topic: I actually kind of did a test on that. I rode pan-flat 130km on Zwift, in a custom meet-up, with no one else around on an average frame with average wheels. Then did the same outside, 130km, pan-flat circular route, only left turns and my road set up (which is very average). I also replicated indoor-style pedalling (i.e. no coasting, just spin all the time). Outside it took me 4:28, inside 4:15.

Not a big difference but a difference and here's I think why:
- Outside there's weather, especially wind.
- Outside you get distractions, even on a circular route. You temporarily drop the ball and ease off or forget to pedal altogether as you know for a fact you won't stop completely right away

But here's the thing: When you get on Zwift you have a selection of very expensive and fast frames and wheels. You also get thousands of people that temporarily give you draft. And that adds to the difference.

But then you can make the counter argument and say that an hour on a turbo is, in fact, harder than an hour outside. So don't feel bad about raking up a few more miles.

I was in the exact opposite situation than you. My first proper bike in years was an indoor trainer hooked up to Zwift. Did that for a few months and then bought a road bike. On my first ride outside I couldn't believe how easy it was

Bill has been AWOL fir the last few months. Try it on Thursday. I’ll send the spare log in I have. The front has still has @Brusgaard and @Rod McG from the old crew.

@BILL S has been AWOL for more than a year in the league (last seen in the league in May 2021) and no posts since July 2022 in the BKOOL thread. AAAC76 has not been seen for about 2 years, and I think he has left the CC forum too - same with DaddyPig.
