Hello! New to this thread and new to zwift. Santa bought me a trainer šŸ˜ Iā€™m really enjoying it so far.

Question about distances. Iā€™m always surprised at the distance zwift says Iā€™ve travelled. I definitely feel like I work harder on Zwift than I do outside, I push harder. But the Zwift mileage looks very generous. Any thoughts?

If you have a Tacx Flux series trainer, you may need to calibrate it. Unlike Tacx Neo don't need any calibration. If you are using bluetooth with Zwift, then you can calibrate your trainer from the Zwift as well, that happens in a pairing screen. Not for sure is that your issue but maybe good to check that as well.

Thanks for the very thoughtful answer. I shall add the miles gladly then - I def find turbo harder than outside. Outside, I'm very reluctant to cycle for 'fitness', I want cycling to remain all about joy. Inside, I'm more than happy to work hard. It's really strange.
Just wait till you get hooked on racing, then Zwift addiction really kicks in :okay:
Tried a race yet?
This is exactly what this lot did to me when I joined the chat. Have you raced? You have to try it! Best thing since sliced bread!

I caved in and did a race 5 days into my journey. Was very sceptical. I have to say: They were all right! I love it and can't imagine life without it. There are events for riders of all abilities. Also, events for female riders only.

Welcome!

If you change from miles to Kms you "level up" faster. Otherwise much as others say you go faster because of no wind, cold, red lights etc but you also work harder, no coasting downhill etc. As Peter says try a race at some point, it's very addictive!

@Cathryn ,you've joined zwift just when it's running it's big tour de zwift events . Cat D is women only and these events have big participation and also have pace partners( robots that ride at a set power there should be one around your ability) the people at the front will race it but there will be people just riding around at a steady pace for you to follow . Could be worth a try I find these much more interesting than solo riding

Cool. I shall have a look tomorrow morning. I am persuaded.

There is no pressure to race, have a go if you feel good or just ride with many others, like a group ride. The mass participation events are fantastic

Zwift sets wind resistance at zero when riding alone, so your speed will be a little quicker than outdoors
That's not right is it? There's always some wind resistance factored into the algorithm (the Cda for example) surely? Obviously there's not crosswind/headwind/tailwind which can either work for or against you speed-wise on an outdoor ride
