Much like the others, I held the front group until the first climb, got dropped but reached the top in a small pack of four riders in about 25th, but our numbers were too small to hold off any of the larger packs behind us and we got swallowed up easily in the desert flats (twice in fact). Eventually that became a pack of about 20, but half of them made the jump to a group of A's barrelling through as we went up the climb leading out of the desert. I tried to leap across but couldn't quite bridge, so sat up and let the 10 or so who remained catch me.
Sat in this group thinking I was doing okay to hang on to them, but looking back I think it was more because no-one in the group had anything left - had anyone made any sort of effort, I'd have been dropped. As it was we were haemorrhaging time to the group ahead even though they were no longer riding with A's now.
When we finally reached the Volcano, everyone split up with four riders pulling away ahead of me, three left in my wake and two riding with me. Those two dropped me with an acceleration straight after the flat section in the middle, but I managed to keep them in my sights and they only got 5-6 seconds on me in the end - 31st in my group, but not sure what placing I got amongst the CAY's.
