I’ve signed up @Peter Salt but won’t be doing all the stages. If I make the start line for stage 1 I’ll be doing well 😊

I’m going to sign up too I think. But I too am very unlikely to do all the stages.

I ended up getting the exposure rear light. Sits nicely under the saddle doesn’t it!

Regarding HRM I’m surprised more people don’t get ones that can be recharged.

What are people's thoughts of segment battle points in ZRL?

Kneejerk reaction - this is getting too complicated, could they not have added more points for finishing position. Happy to give it a go though

Problem I see, you don't know who you are competing against directly in your group. Are we going to be getting different markers on our Avatars? You could directly see your competition and that would make it obvious

It seems very gimmicky to me. There’s a bit of a random element to it too.

They seem determined to constantly try and re invent the wheel don’t they.

Again, it always makes me question who they are trying to appeal to.

The sub dividing of categories works better in FRR. You're named accordingly so can see direct competition on the screen from the leader board. Better still would be to colour your helmet so you only need to keep an eye on the bunch.

Firstly, they're trying to give everyone a medal for taking part. Mixed feelings about that.

Secondly, absolutely agree that it sounds massively complicated. If the goal was to reduce reliance on single strong riders, just make it so that you can only get on the FTS board once - easy to do. If they wanted to include more people in the scoring - why not have 20 people score FAL/FTS - again, much easier to understand and track in-race.

The way I understand this system is that in a race with 12 segments (3 laps with 4 segments) you get to score a maximum of 12x16 battle points - so 192 points. In a field of 80 riders, this is theoretically possible by coming in 65th place, which would also award 8 points (the remaining 15 of your 'opponents' would have to come in 66-80) for a total of 200 points.

For comparison: If you cross the finish line 1st, and get 2nd FTS on all 4 unique segments that's just 100 points. If you cross each segment in 10th place that's 12 FAL. And if people in 1-9 were your 'opponents' then that's 84 battle points (assuming 16 teams). So a grand total of 196 points.

And, as @<Tommy> mentions above, because there's so many races where riders are in a blob - whether you're 15th or 45th through a banner can be completely random.

At first glance: I don't like it. But let's see how it plays out.

I think you can see a list of names when you sign up ,if your rider 1 you can see the names of every teams rider 1 but that could be 12 names to remember

Depending on league size it could be 16. Only way to be sure is to be at the front. I like the idea of some kind of visible indicator of who’s in your group.
They’ve said a bit more about it now. Teams will be in ranked order, so the strongest rider in each team will be in group 1. But they haven’t said what metric they’re using for ranking.

It should at least disincentivise strong riders from ‘bimble and smashing’ the FTS segments (Unless they accidentally put me in group 1, that is )

What I'd like to see is clearly identifiable riders in your group and some kind of ongoing scoreboard so you can see how you're doing during the race (even if it's just your own points). If it's all split up and you don't know if you're 1st or 16th in your group, that would be a bit crap.

Is that the exposure saddle mount? Watch it first few rides. It was a bit notorious for losing the light. There’s a pukka 3d printed one from a uk company that’s supposed to be excellent IF you need it.

I couldn’t face a steady-paced effort up the Alpe so I did on/off segments, aiming not for a particular power on the hard segments (as hard as I could sustain, varying by segment length), but for a recovery segment power of about 240W.

Turned out a 50:48, which, because of the pacing, is going to be fun to chase down with the HoloReplay next time!
I added a kilo to my Zwift weight (mostly stollen and wine), so it was a bit of a struggle to match/beat Wednesday’s ride. I had a ‘lead’ of 26s at midway, but that mostly evaporated; I finished really strongly on Wednesday, so my hologram was catching me hand-over-fist on that last drag to the line, but I prevailed over myself with a 50:42.

I have to say I really like the HoloReplay function.

Good time :okay:

It clicked in very securely. I had to push it quite hard before it accepted it.

Hopefully it’s the traceR rather than BoostR light that had the issues. They have different brackets. But now you’ve said that I think I might tether something to the light.

I’m going to have a go in a bit. I’ve not done the alp since they introduced the ghost but I think it’s a great edition. I think I’m going to just go steady whilst watching something on prime. And then gradually try and improve over time racing myself. It’s got to be less painful than racing lee up there at any rate…

I managed to hold on to the lead C group until the lead As/Bs caught us with about 3km to go, then I was dropped. I've not ridden much recently so I was pleased to hold on to the lead C group as long as I did.
