I asked the builders to install a separate continuous 40amp RCBO to the garage and data cable. They did neither

They fitted a 10mm cable jointing it outside with Wagos in a small 4" box. Used 6mm Wago and trimmed the 10mm cable to fit into the Wagos

. We opened the joint box checking for earth connections when we moved the connectors they just fell off the wires. We upgraded to a much larger box with 10mm connectors.

I need to feed the CT input back from the meter or internal consumer unit to the Zappi. Main fuse is 80amp which potentially could blow if he had the car charging, having a shower(electric) tumble drier going and making a cup of tea^_^

The Zappi will throttle down charging from the current drawn by the house reading the CT information. It easier to dig a trench around the house to the garage whilst soil is still soft, lay a conduit and feed small cat5/6 cable through it.
Andy, sounds like it would be less hassle just to do it yourself and then invite an inspector to sign it off ;)

Wendy had it bad for 10 days or so - and it is still lingering a bit with her. Touch wood, it didn't strike me down although I felt I was fighting it for a while.

🤞

Same here for almost 2 weeks now. Sore throat and sneezing/coughing up massive volumes of brownish goo. I feel it's slowly getting better though. It's in the way of my 1200W target

The missus thought it was clearing and then it’s come back again. Hopefully that’s not the same for you

Honestly, it really has spoilt the house for me.

I asked for only a few specific cable jobs, done with certain sizes and protection. They basically ignored everything, did their standard install. For folk who have no practical knowledge or skills to notice these relatively tiny things, only to find out many weeks later.

I also asked for a 6mm or ideally 10mm cable into the loft for the solar. I specified that, to eliminate volt drop issues with the invertor. They fitted 2.5mm cable, no isolator in the loft. now I will have to either cut a section of wall out upstairs or cut a hole in the floor to pull the correct cable. I wasn't asking for any of this work for free, happy to pay for extra materials and labour.

Doing this work at first fix would have been so cheap compared to remedial after works.

I’m fine… but it feels a bit like going out in the rain and dodging the droplets at the moment. I have a forbidding feeling I’m going get ill right on the doorstep of Christmas

It’s not that bad tbf - I’ve had it for a week but haven’t moaned 😁

Was it a general builder or an electrician who did the work Andy? It sounds like the former. Have they provided certification? I’d be happy to look at it if they have. Take them to the small claims court?

Its an electrical contractor hired by the builder company. I'm not blaming the electrician for not fitting the cables I wanted. He's just doing what he is told. But the lack of earth bonding and using 6mm wago on 10mm cable which doesn't actually fit is very poor. My electrician says he has to spend 3-4 hours being NIC tested each year for his audit, but then electrician's onsite get away with extremely poor standard of workmanship. I know we all make mistakes, but nibbling strands off am oversized cable to fit into an incorrect sized connector is wiful.

I's need to go through the sale pack my son has got. it should have all the warranties and test certs for gas and electrics

I wont bleat on it anymore, its sorted for him, we will finish the other stuff in due course.

Anyhow, spent all afternoon underneath wife's Tesla repairing rain ingress on the towbar electrics. If it isn't one thing its another

Any electrician signing test certificates needs to be affiliated with the NIC or a similar body Andy. And electricians who aren’t qualified to test their own work and, or affiliated with one of the governing bodies, still need to get their work tested and signed off by someone who is. So no they shouldn’t be able to get away with it really. Not if the work is properly tested and certified. If they have provided you with a test sheet then it’ll be your smoking gun. If they haven’t then it’s even worse.

It shouldn’t be the builder telling the electrician what to do. The builders unlikely to know the ins and outs of wiring regulations and your system requirements. In this instance it should be the builder telling the electrician what you want, and the electrician designing to that spec. What you’ve asked for isn’t out of the ordinary, and if they haven’t conformed to the electrical regs then it’s very easy to pin them down.

Honestly I’d threaten the builder with legal action if they didn’t make it right / compensate you. Get your electrician to test / photograph everything he finds and it should paint a picture.

I won’t bore the masses anymore! But feel free to pm me if you want me to look into with you.

Yeah, had it since Thursday. It’s why I’ve chosen to work from home last few days, so no-one at work could accuse me of giving it to them and spoiling their Christmas. Sore throat and runny nose have now gone, just the cough still to get rid of (and that’s better than it was at the weekend).

The strange thing is while I was Zwifting the past few days was one of the only times I didn’t feel too bad. When I came to a stop was when I had trouble with my breathing!

Exactly that - gets you when you ease off. Makes repeated sprints very unpleasant

Not much impact on average power but definitely takes away the top end - on the bike and in the gym.

I think I have that. I'm getting better but can't shift the headache or the fatigue. And as we are in Kent and then Cheshire over Christmas that means my cycling for 2022 is now over which is annoying. Families and illnesses. Cycblockers.

Keep boring us... I feel like I am learning stuff. I will be able to quote this to my wife and she'll think I'm all manly ^_^
