So the Matchmaking race was...

...fairly evenly matched

Crit City Dolphin. 8 laps. 10 Starters in the Orange race.
The lowest rated rider dropped on lap 3. Everyone else stayed together until about the last 1km. It was fairly hard work, I was pushing 219W for 20 minutes. Then at the end, the 90kg sprinter guy went early at about 900m and stayed off, then it started to split up. I got b@stard XP on the final powerup arch, so had no super-power for the finish. But managed 6th on natural charm and good-looks.

The winner was 1s clear, but the next 5 were in the next second. It felt pretty evenly matched. Quite hard going for me as flat and fast, but wasn't too much to hold on. Beat 3 silvers and 1 gold. Lost to 4 silvers and 1 gold, so a small ranking loss

I think the system did quite a good job of matching riders of similar ability.

I was in the race with you, As you say, very evenly matched.

I screwed up the finish. Sat back and waited a little longer than I should have done before the final kicker. By the time I realised I was gapped enough that I knew it was pointless trying to get back on, so rolled in behind another guy who was dropped.

I think I’ve spent so long hanging around in the back half of B cat races that I completely forgot what to do when you’re at the front of a race. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I hadn't made the connection between your different screen names

It was nice to have a race that felt like everyone was in the running. Felt a bit sad when the German woman dropped off on lap 3. She was the lowest ranked though, so the system got that right.

I just tried to keep up and see if there was anything left at the end. There wasn't much, but enough to have a go

I don't know that course very well. Too light for flat ones to suit me all that well. (Mind you, so are you.)
I think I'd do another one like that if they do a lumpier course :okay:

Going up the Alpe today Zwift froze 500m from the finish

It's been playing up ever since the last update, resulting in me having to do a complete format/re-install of Windows to try and fix whatever issue it caused.

Has anyone else had any issues with it over the past few days?

I haven't had any issues, but I also haven't been up the Alpe - that sounds really frustrating with it crashing 500m from the top, what a nightmare!

Finally got on a B+ team with DIRT - one of the guys in my team - Rob Bane - knows you from a previous race series Michael
Ah yes he was the captain of our b- team last time around. Very savvy. That also explains why there Is no b- team for abr that I'm aware of! Might try and join a team for race 2 if dates suit, from memory it's quite a compressed season?

Yeah it starts tomorrow with an ITT, then stage 2 is a race on 27th, stage 3 a race on 30th, and then there's back to back TTT followed by race on 3rd January.

I guess they're wanting to squeeze it in between ZRL seasons - the next of which starts on 10th January

What time is it, 7.30pm? I might still try and join you after my TT if I haven't completely destroyed myself already and if I've finished in time. It's a 20.46km ITT on London 8 which includes an ascent of Fox Hill - I'm guessing around 35-40 minutes for that maybe? I might be being ridiculously ambitious saying this though!

RGV this morning (ride like poo stage 3). @Johnsop99 rode it in C, me in B. Very hard start. (I hate burritos :stop:). I fought to stay on as long as I could and eventually got spat out at Aqueduc. Then I let two guys catch me and we made up a merry little bunch until about 1.2km from the end when we started testing each other. Eased off at 500m, got behind the other two and deployed my Ghost at 400m, then sprinty sprinty get a gap before they notice and just keep giving everything that's left. First time I've done that. Worked a treat

I just wish that invisibility PU was 10 seconds longer - sometimes when you come through a pack of riders you're barely off the front by the time it ends, so being a little longer would make it much more effective. Great use of it by you there though :okay:
