Talking of Race Makuri, here's the final CycleChat standings from those events, sorted by number of races completed, then by time.

For the two riders (Martin and Alex) who crossed category boundaries during the event, I merged their times to give them one definitive total (which is why the colour bands of the chart are all out of whack).

We looked at doing one of the haute events. But in the end chose the raid for that reason. The haute is essentially a race, and we want to be able to stop and enjoy the scenery at the tops of the climbs. I don’t remember the view from the restaurant being anything to write home about

All jokes aside it’s just horses for courses really. Some people climb Everest solo. Some hire Sherpas. And some take a helicopter ride to the top.

It just seems like we’re talking apples and oranges in terms of goals.

That's it Tommy, everyone has their levels and ambitions.

I've got a mate from Tenerife who has done several of these Haute events. I would class him, very much a Berty rider. If you ever fancy the haute events , I should be able to pass the contact on.

He did say, they were particularly gruelling events. He mentioned getting enough food down before each days stage was awful. xx(

Been reading the last few pages intently seeing the different attitudes to training for certain goals
With the next big birthday being 60 I am in no doubt that any chance of being a pro is slim and slowly ebbing away
BUT I will train to the best of my ability for this tour so I can do it as best I can , not just get round without dying
Will I enjoy it as much - damn right ! I am sure I will have a proper buzz with blood pumping
Would I be able to do it with 6weeks training - probably
Would I be able to do it better , easier with more training - definitely
Each to their own I guess , do short races to get good at short races , do long rides to get used to long rides
Do both and cover all bases
Not sure that if you can do 2 hour ride that it goes without saying you can do 6hr ride - things pack up that you don’t expect like shoulders , neck and arse , a niggle at 2hrs can become a nightmare 4,5,6 hrs later and I would like to make sure I don’t suffer more than I need to but just an opinion
Have rode with some who ride 100 mile like they have rode 10 mile and some who ride 100 mile like they have rode 1000 - they both rode 100 mile but I know which one I would rather be

I think Carl meant to say 2hr indoor .

You're doing a tour, so will regular occasions to stop, have mini breaks. These all help tremendously against stress injuries. The cumulative fatigue is a big one. But you've done big rides before Lee, so should be aware of the pace you need to ride at

The climbing is I presume similar each day as well as distance around 90 miles. Assuming you're not staying up at high altitude overnight, there will be a fair amount of descending too.

I used to break down my days into for example 80+ miles was actually only 40 miles of hard work and the rest was descent, which was free fun
