Should have painted it red, @IrishAl. Everyone knows that makes you go faster ;)

I finished the FRR now and been thinking about ZRL. Came to conclusion that I'm not giving it enough credit. In the end, it's one of the main reasons why I improved. ZRL rocks. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. Still, probably the best racing experience I ever had on Zwift. Bring on on Tuesday! :boxing:

That's the thing isn't it? Everyone bitches about sandbaggers, gimps, piss-poor rules, unfair FTS tactics, too many segments etc. but it's still the biggest and most successful series on Zwift - because it's so much fun. (apart from TTTs - they suck )

I believe Eastenders still tops the chart for the most ever viewers of a single episode. From what I understand in recent weeks other than the World Cup, I’m a celebrity get me out of here has been the number 1 show in the UK.

I’ve secretly started a training plan 3 weeks ago. For the past 2 winters I’ve struggled with motivation to “just cycle” on Zwift. I find pace partner rides boring and group rides aren’t much better - usually I find the pace nothing like that advertised and usually end up finding myself off the back early doors. Instead I usually found a race to get stuck into four or so times a week, and I enjoyed that but my fitness/ form has been in decline for a few years now which I put mainly down to a tough period at work a couple of years ago.

So I’ve drawn up a plan similar to one that I followed back during winter 2018/19. Now my FTP is down around 280w compared to a peak of around 320/330w. I don’t see myself getting back near that but 310 would be nice. I still want to get once race in a week so I’ve worked my plan around that - I enjoy the camaraderie of you guys in the ZRL team/s

So what am I training for?? I’ve always loved cycling since I took it up especially as it must help keep the weight off as I eat some amount of crap. I’ve booked a week in Mallorca in April with a few mates from my local cycling club. They’re decent riders so I don’t want to be getting left too far behind out there. Plus I’d like to get back to the pointy end of B racing - if I just keep racing then i don’t think I’ll see the gains I need.

Consider me subscribed Al!

I’ll be interested to hear about your approach to things.

When you started racing with us again on zwift you were flying. I remember you clearly being very focussed in your training at that time and it got you to A cat and top of the pile here too.

That is a very bad reflection on this country  But yes I get your point. Just because something's popular doesn't mean it isn't shite

when are you out Mallorca ? I am out there about the 8th I think - and I am allowed to take my bike :wahhey:

I get there on evening of 10th and staying for a week in Alcudia. My plan is to hire a bike this time. I’ve good experience hiring from Huerzeler’s on a couple of occasions which reminds me I need to get the damn thing booked.

Where about an are you staying? Must meet up for a beer if you’ve time :okay:

Forgot about the wooden canoe! Have you been out much @IrishAl ?
Only had it out a couple of times this year Michael including a sinking at Tyrella beach when the waves got the better of us - thankfully the water was only knee deep at the time. The nice varnish finish has some nice deep scores in it which need a bit of sanding and more varnish. A job for next spring methinks. My next project is to make a pair of wooden paddles. Got the wood on Friday.

Almost as nice as your canoe. It looks so nice you shouldn't use it for fear of scratching it up.

Hahaha I deliberately didn’t give a close up of the varnish finish of the rocker plate - there’s more ripples in it than a very rippled thing  I’m giving it a few extra days indoors to allow it to fully cure then I’ll get the turbo back on it.

Wouldn't know about that - don't even have a TV license. But also - don't care if what I like is liked by others.

Just because a lot of folks prefer one thing doesn't make it good, but it doesn't make it bad either... Unless you're a contrarian and just assume everything popular 'is sooo not you' and would rather watch your favourite Antonioni flick for the 40th time :laugh::laugh:

😄

It doesn’t mean anything to be fair does it. It’s pretty subjective. I don’t have a problem with WRTL at all for what it’s worth. But I think maybe it would be fair to say the reasons for its popularity are multifaceted. And going back to the debate I started a few days ago, perhaps limiting, depending on what your criteria are.

💯 spot on.

My training plan is to improve my 15 and 30 second power for sprints and my 1 to 5 min power. This meets my objectives to max points in ZRL races, and my other preferences when it comes to zwift.

It means I sacrifice longer, steeper races but that's OK as not my thing.

As yiu say though, we're all different and just because someone does something different it doesn't mean it's wrong.

I'm more Chris Hoy than Chris Froome ...both very much amazing cyclists, but of different types. Neither are wrong. Personally, I have a preference to be a Hoy style cyclist than a Froome.

Good luck to everyone, whatever style of riding you choose. That's the joy of cycling, something for everyone
