Ah, yes. Obsession with data and overtraining. I'm definitely guilty of the former, but not as much as @alex_cycles ;)

I need to gather some more data about that, make a chart, and analyse whether or not it's an issue.
I do love data

I haven't read the article, but I've read a lot about diet, endurance training and general sports and cycling science in the last few years - because it's interesting. Some of the key signs of overtraining are injuries, excessive fatigue, plateauing, lack of enthusiasm, getting ill etc.

I don't have any of those and still getting better. I've reduced my volume quite a lot since the summer (from ~800 miles/month to ~500), but upped the intensity (basically racing more and club riding less). CTL peaked at 82 in June and it's currently 57 - although I should probably do a new FTP test. Actually I may go and do that now as I've just had two days off so it would be a good time to do it.

As for training - I'm still new to the whole cycling game. I don't have a training plan, but I did my homework and have what I would call training principles.
- I do a lot of Z2 pace partner pootles and smash it once or twice a week (race or at the very least Z2 ride followed by a few sprint efforts).
- I try for each week to have a higher training volume (hours) than the previous week. Last week in the 'series' needs to be a killer!
- Once I get to 4-5 weeks in accordance to the above, I start over but try to make sure that week 1 is harder than previous week 1, so it kind of looks like this (this week still in progress):
View attachment 669717
- Every few months I really take time off with very little to no hard riding for 2 weeks at all.

Ha! That one has a lot of hills but at least you know where they start and end. Harrogate (today) - now that's a killer. Bumps and descents all the time, gradients of 18% out of nowhere, absolute carnage. And the custom finish line is on top of Pot Bank Wall (3rd time up) - that's cruelty dialed up to 11

Clearly working for you 👍 don't think I've ever been in danger of being overtrained!

Cheers for stepping in @CXRAndy

@CXRAndy I've requested a team invite goes out to you via WTRL team management- can you check your emails and let me know if you have anything?

Some of us are doing the WTRL TTT tonight at around 7.30 if you want a practice as there's still room in the team?

It should count as your device will have recorded it. ZP has you in 11th so almost certainly fine :okay:

Well done for following through with the next stage.

Told you that Yorkshire is relentless. I still have nightmares after I got dropped there by literally everyone when we did a club ride a year ago.

Today, I got spat out the back first time up the KOM as well but ended up with a group of about 20.

I haven't recovered wery well as I ran out of ice cream yesterday. Fixing that mistake as we speak.

Very tough course. Did 3 laps of Horrorgate last week. Got dropped near the top of the KoM lap 2 and spent most of the rest of the race on my own. Let them distance you and as a lightweight you've got very little chance of chasing back on down the descent.
