Did my semi-regular 10.5-mile TT last night on my road bike. Jo thought I was mad to go out on the hottest day ever but it was 'only' about 26 degrees at 20:30. Still really sweaty!

The route has got a long drag on it and a few punchy climbs (12% and 8%) towards the end, as well as a few technical bits, so it's a nice all-round test. My previous best from 2020 was 30:41, but I managed 29:37 last night. It'd be interesting to see how much faster I could do it on my TT bike, but that hasn't even been ridden since 2015 so I'd have to unravel the cobwebs first!

Last year I got a PR on our local 10-mile TT when it was 29°C and most people were whinging about the heat. low wind and air density probably helped. There must be an optimum temperature, but it's probably different for different people. I certainly didn't feel like riding yesterday, but it was still 30°C outside at 2200, by which time I'd lost interest in the idea.

First indoor ride in a wee when. Zwift classic; a good advert on how to ride sharp climbs - 2 bridges loop, main climb a short steep ramp of 100m that briefly hits double figure gradient. Big field for this time of year (82 at start) and all together at first climb so thought I could ease up but big mistake

You can see my first effort is about 200 watts higher than my second effort; it also has two bursts of around 400 watts that weren't needed the second or third time - price of being at the back rather than hitting the front at a sustained pace. Very nearly spat out back and race over, as it was It took about a lap to recover

Anyway tour is all set up for tomorrow isn't it? Feel like pogacar is going to be majorly isolated so will have to try something relatively early (if he can)

Yup, that's the way it is. If Pogacar don't have any aces in his sleeves and try something unexpected tomorrow I guess we can say yellow jersey doesn't change owner anymore.

He used his team-mates quite heavily today. I wonder if they will have anything left tomorrow?

If McNulty can then he's superhuman; JBV basically had a recovery ride in..Majka is a big loss. Been a great tour though, if anyone can pogacar can

I missed todays stage completely. But it’s been great so far hasn’t it. Just a shame pog lost so much time the day he buckled. If it was inside thirty seconds or a minute than it’d be even better. They seem so evenly matched. But how much does Vingegaard have in reserve? He knows he just has to hold Pogs wheel and he seems to be doing that comfortably doesn’t he. I just can’t see Pog clawing it back unless there’s some bad luck of some sort.

Exactly - in his first TdF win he took a minute off Roglic in the TT and Roglic is a good TTer  He's got the magical ability to pull a surprise out of the bag. (Although I think he'll need a bag of tacks to shake Vingegaal off^_^).

He took two minutes. But that was a combination of Pog doing exceptionally well and Rog doing exceptionally bad.

Prediction for today: UAE does exactly what they did yesterday, this time Pog properly attacks, distances Vingegaard but later blows up. Still, claws back half the deficit and we're left with 60s difference ahead of the TT.
