Bugger, was hoping to put in a nice ride in the lanes early tomorrow morning before it gets hot. But I caught the end of my sandal on the nosing of our stone steps as I was going up, and managed to gash the underside of my big toe as I fell. I don’t think the toe will fall off, and I managed to dress it myself without passing out, but there was quite a bit of claret and it’s hurting like a bastard, so I’ll probably rest it up... 🤬

Great afternoon out on the bike yesterday, met up with 3 other mates ( we hadn't ridden together since a trip to Snowdon before Covid ), the banter and the beer was soon flowing as our first stop was a cafe / bar just outside the village of Hullavington.

The Flying Monk brewery... 🍺👍

We left the bar and were soon onto some gravel, were I took up last position and now realise what Roubaix on a dry day must be like as I was hurtling thru dappled bridleways whilst inhaling dust & flies in equal measures.

Another stop for refreshments at The Old Royal Ship in Luckington where we enjoyed another beer, with a side of Pork Scratchings & Cheesy chips.

On leaving there our ride leader had found another shortcut, which meant only one thing, more dust !

Then back for a night of BBQ, camping and more beer.....

A perfect day and a great sunset.

Who is going out today for a cycle?:sun:

Mrs and I have been trundling around the lanes on an evening last week. We been out 3 or 4 times, done 80 miles ish sampling the local produce. We went out last night went to four places, but two had shut early-eerily quiet on the roads.

Today will be mainly lounging by the pool with the dogs

We started at 6pm, you could still feel the heat whilst cycling. Towards 8pm, it began to cool off nicely and was very pleasant. Got back and watched a few episodes of 'Better call Saul" We're having a few refresh series to bring us to date for the new series 😁

Went for a run 🏃🏼‍♂️ earlier... 😰 🔥 ☀ 👍

Only 3.6 kms.

I'm doing a fundraising challenge in July for The Samaritans....

Samarathon - run a marathon distance during the month, this hot 🔥 weather isn't helping, but it's for a good cause so I'll keep going... 👍

EDIT : Fundraising link if anyone would like to sponsor me for this worthwhile cause... 😉

Wife has reached her limit, well for a couple of days, so I might pick a shortish ride on Zwift later

I decided to do a race, which turned out to be OK re coping with temperatures.

I came first :hyper:

out of 2 in ZP

To my defence there were 10 on the line to start. ;)

Several B cats in our pen. I went with them from the gun and we caught the rear of the proper B cats. There I stayed into the entrance of the volcano and over the first miles or so, until the volcano climb segment started. By now I had a nice big lead over my C brothers. I tempo'd up the climb and cruised to the finish.

One of our club mates has been hit by a vehicle returning home after yesterday's club ride. He's in quite a bad way in hospital. He's had surgery and will require several more operations. The only thankful part, injuries are not life threatening 😳

Looks like the potential for an interesting day at the tour today.

How are you guys coping with the heat?

Clearly most of us have been coping by not posting in this thread for the last couple of days - although I can't say it helped much.

Highest I measured was 38.8°C in the shade at 1418 yesterday. Really not nice. Too much for me. But hopefully we're over it now.
We went food shopping yesterday and lingered in the air-conditioned supermarket for longer than usual. Plus extra showers and lots of whinging, fans and not moving around as much.

But generally, not coping all that well - just surviving.

Supposed to have CX race 2 this afternoon. Hope it stays cloudy to be honest (never thought I'd say that )

I went to the Cheltenham Cricket Festival yesterday, cycled to & From Bristol Parkway ( lots of delays on the return journey ! ).

It was our annual day out and unfortunately I'd came last in our Fantasy Football league so had to go as fancy dress, due to the heat & the costume I changed into it at the ground and didn't wear it for too long... 🦕

I've a video too but not sure how to upload that... 😉
