Well done. The irony there is that you'd have been 5th in the Bs with that time. I've noticed the same with the "silly short" races I do. Got 4th in Cat A on this one but would have been 11th in B and wouldn't even have won C either.

Yeah who knows!

You can see generally across the categories in a race the average power / w/kg is on a sliding scale across the cats canā€™t you. But maybe the varying size of the packs across the categories skews the overall times. Maybe what the B cat lose on the climb they gain on the downhill and flat šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

You never get back enough that is lost time on a climb lets say 5mins, if the gap is substantial say 30secs to 1min. It takes a long descent or flat terrain for higher Watts to catch up. I need to do an experiment or some of you clever simulation guys to create a graphics video demonstrating the loss V gain of different cats over a course.

I appreciate pack dynamics with enhanced draft and speed come into play, but one on one generally W/kg wins over hilly courses including the descent and flat return to finish

Got a blister from walking yesterday @Whorty, another to add to my long list of ailments!! How's the Covid?

Good walking shoes, and socks, that's what you need.

Covid is fine ... still coughing up gunk, but that's all. Didn't really have it bad ... just a bit rough for a couple of hours over a couple of days, but carried on working. In fact, dumb as I am, had I not got the gammy leg I'd probably have carried on cycling (I did carry on doing weights).

I'm very much a kill or cure when it comes to colds and flu like illnesses

Indeed Andy.

You cut my post in half when you quoted it and it kind of loses its context at that point.
The race I was referencing in my post is one with a large B group compared to a 4 rider A group. Not 1 vs 1 as you mentioned.
As I said, you can see if look across the categories the w/kg is on a sliding scale. But the times are heavily dictated by group dynamics when the groups are skewed in terms of size. Hence why the B cat time is similar to the A cat time, but for noticeably less power.

Well the Wahoo Trainer is working an absolute treat.
I am really enjoying the Pace Partner option, which has increased my pace and mileage
Still way behind a lot of you though....:notworthy:

Makes a big difference when you find a set up that works for you, happy cycles!

@Legs thought you were doing a crit so jumped on, you missed a fun race! Smaller (and let's face it, weaker) fields are fun

Yeah I got caught up with domestic chores (moving fridge/freezer and prepping the catflap for tiling!) and only finished that a few mins before the race was due to start. Then I got sucked into watching the tennis... Well done with your effort, bud!

Will try to summon the energy to do my nearly-weekly Gorby tonight. My 5-min intervals are 335W now, which felt ridiculous when I did it last time. No gain without pain, though!

I did my first Zwift ride in 10 days since my suspect COVID. I chose an easy 1.5W/kg D cat recovery group event.
It was nice joining in as a sweeper for a few others struggling with the pace.

"It gives me a sense of enormous well-being"

^_^
I on the other hand missed my Kinetic Cruisers ride due to work. Put together and rode a custom workout instead which was quite fun.

Two questions on that:
1. Can I set a power range that I need to do in a segment? Say, instead of 'Ride at 200W for 5 minutes' do a 'Ride between 180-220W for 5 minutes'?
2. How do I make it so that I see my average wattage for a segment?

If it's erg mode, then yes you should be able to set power

Not that I'm aware of - it wouldn't work with erg mode, which needs a specific power to hone in on.

I use https://zwofactory.com/ to make custom workouts (it's very intuitive though I don't know if it's PC-only...) and if you click on the lightning power symbol it gives you this option...

I don't have ERG mode as it's not a smart trainer. So I have to set a specific target, I can't set a segment that tells me to ride anywhere between 200W and 300W?

I'll check that out, thanks.
