I do like to see a project develop👍

Pete are you going to race it during the cyclo-cross winter season?

If you do race, best bit of advice I can relay from some of our seasoned CX racers in my club. Fit tubular tyres, so you can run super low pressure, maintain grip and have excellent rolling resistance. I'll ask which is the flavour of the month in make and model tubulars
Not thinking about any other racing than the ZRL, Andy ;) Maybe next year?

Main thought is to have something to go a bit more off-road - towpaths, bridleways and the like - and alloy so it doesn't crack when I inevitably fall over  Have a spare set of wheels too so maybe will serve as a winter road bike? Not really sure yet. But really like the colour and style and it was practically mint. CX is great for practising your falling off...

It seemed I spent more time on my arse than upright when racing... 😂

Crossing a stream at Oldbury Court CX race in Bristol a couple of years ago.
It was December and that water was freezing ❄... 😉

That's my turbo bike, a TCX 3. The tektro cantilever brakes on it are absolute trash, so change them to something better if you can.

Nice! Yes, trying very hard to find CX70s but looks difficult - they would nicely match the groupset. Option B is CX50s. I could also, theoretically, fit the road Ultegra 6800 - the tyre clearance is there, but would require some sort of extenders to reach the brake track.

Nope, looking for the Ultegra version. Check out those beauties:

Searched everywhere, I think. The only place I found them was in Switzerland and the company only ships nationally and to Lichtenstein. They'll pop up somewhere sooner or later, I hope.

They do look good. What about these, you are an engineer, turn down the brake stubs like the Ultegras

Isn't tubeless more in favour for CX these days? Certainly easier to swap tyres for different conditions!

Certainly the cool kids round our way do CX tubeless and chain waxing (instead of leg waxing ).
Swap tyres? The one thing about tubeless that I don't like is that it's messy if you have to swap a tyre, so I'd opt for multiple wheelsets if I wanted a choice of tyres. I guess if you're a carbon wheel kinda guy that would get expensive real fast, but I don't have any of those yet.

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
A couple of weeks ago I posted that I'd picked up a Wahoo Kickr Smart for £200 via eBay. It was delivered, we went to Ireland, both of us caught Covid and today we finally got it set up.

Out of the box there weren't any instructions but it looked very shiny. Unused shiny. The only issue was that the skewer it came with was bent at 45 degrees. Some un-bending, a new skewer, and it's set up with the cassette appearing unused but was originally set to a 24" kids wheel rather than 700c on unboxing.

All works fine, tested on Zwift and fine. It looks simply that someone bought it, couldn't install it to their bike, then returned it unused.

It looks to be a really decent purchase for £200 delivered. To be installed in a halls of residence should son no. 2 get anywhere near his predicted A-level grades.
