Need some advice with power meters.
I recently bought a Stages power meter (cheap option) to help with my training on outdoor rides.
I noticed straight away that my power numbers seemed too high but had nothing to compare with as I have an old 9 speed bike fitted to my trainer.
i decided to fit a 11 speed cassette on to my Direto trainer so I could use my road bike to compare power readings.
As suspected I had a 25% increase of power on my Stages meter compared to the trainer.
Example: Direto = 150 watts Stages 200 watts

On the app i toggled a setting called gyroscope that's only used to improve cadence on rough terrain such as mountain biking.
This brought down my stages power meter similar to my trainer but now it's 10% - 20% lower than my trainer.

Question: How accurate is your power meter compared to your trainer before I decide if I need to send it back as not fit for purpose.

have you got the crank length set up correctly on the stages?

to add i have stages bike (essentially stages crank power meters) and have compared to PowerTap p1 and as @Norry1 within 2%

Do you calibrate both regularly?

To answer your question, My Powertap Pedals and NEO 2T are within 1-2% of each other.

Any power meter needs to be calibrated (often called a zero offset). If you haven't already done it then it's probably that.

Heres a link on how to do that from stages website:
https://support.stagescycling.com/e...569-how-do-i-calibrate-my-stages-power-meter-

Doesn't need doing often, just when there's a significant change e.g if the crank is removed and refitted or apparently if there is a significant temperature change. No idea what constitutes significant though!

Good question as you would think that would make a difference but I've not seen a setting that asks for a crank length.
in the stages power app - connect device(s) then under tools crank length, while your in there, check firmware and then zero reset :okay:

Yeah I do a zero set-up before every ride as suggested by Stages and I've also replaced a belt and pulley on my trainer and re-calibrated it.
I will re-calibrate the trainer again later since the belt has been fitted and settled in with a ride on it yesterday.

Thanks 've have done that on a regular basis but there does seem to be a firmware issue with the toggling of the gyroscope option.
I've sent a support ticket to Stages to my findings and waiting for some feedback.

I’ve just looked and it’s been set automatically on a handshake which is correct.
