To be honest I think the opposite is most likely true. I’ve just looked briefly at peoples Strava results and most people’s power seems to be well down on their ftp across that course. If you’re pushing the catergory boundary limit on a course that undulating and long distance /time wise. I think it’s just a matter of time before youre promoted. I might be wrong though.
Tommy, I agree with your general point but think I disagree on the specific here. Last night I was on track to beat my best 20 minute power on Zwift as I approached the top of the Volcano KOM. But I got there at
around 19 minutes and then my average plummeted as we went down the hill. Assuming the C's were a bit slower, they would have been just over 20 minutes at that point, which may have made it an exceptional course for 20 minute power purposes.
Overall, my average power was lower than usual for the reasons you state.
