Needed to squeeze in a quick race today, too many meetings/commitments.
An amazing 102 C racers in the pens if I read things correctly for the downtown dolphin race. With a field that size I fully expected a brutally fast race. I spent the first 4 laps trying to hang on, but ultimately had to let the lead pack go and ease up to join a second pack. We continually mopped up coned riders and those who couldn't handle the lead pace. Ultimately finished 28th on the road, 10th on zp. New course record for me -- but over a minute behind the lead group.
My ~25 minute power now is about where my ~50 minute power was in 2018. That may sound pathetic, but that's a huge improvement in the last month or so. I credit replacing a short crit city race with a longer ZRL race most weeks as well as hitting the ski slopes regularly with my daughter the last month or so. Got to love that she can ski all 15 resorts in Utah 3 times each for a grand total of $50. Great program for the munchkins, an extra workout or two every week for me.
