Just tried my first race - the 3R Gotham Grind Flat Race.

Got off to a great start - bluetooth disconnected at the start line so had to jump off and reset the turbo, then try and catch people up.

Eventually got into a three that was working around my effort level.

No placement because I don't have HRM currently.

Good average power though, @straas - those are B Cat numbers. You need to complete three races before you ride in the Zwift Racing League.

If you have a bluetooth setup (not ANT+) then a HRM monitor can be less than £20?

They're very good at telling you why you're hurting so much during a race

ha ha, I'm a big softy ^_^ The host was a really nice chap and was slightly shafted by the research team. He doesn't see the properties selected for us until 10 mins before he shows us around. He was not happy that the research team missed the brief so badly, especially with property 2. Rach and I just enjoyed the ride and it did help us to show us what we didn't want, so that was useful :okay:

That's a lovely watch. I do wonder sometimes how much thought they put into those things, you were both very patient with him!

It's a steep learning curve, pity about the technical issue! Did you enjoy it?

If anyone is interested in wasting an hour, here is a link to Rach and my (very) brief brush with TV stardom. This is our episode of Escape to the Country, filmed in 2014 when Rach was still quite well. The properties were not suitable, but we had a lot of fun filming the show :okay:

p.s. before I started cycling too much, so please, no comments on my weight!!

Did you buy in cornwall in the end?

For us, the filming of the show and the process they follow was as interesting as the properties. Poor Alistair didn't see the places until just before us, so he had no idea what we would see either. The show makes out that he selects the places, but that's not true. He is a really nice guy and we had some pretty frank comments on the second property, which was cut out  Rach's suggestion to turn it into a pub was the only one they left in ^_^

The solo sections, where they ask Rach and me individually what we think of each property is a bit strange too - the researcher who selected the houses is the person sitting behind the camera asking the questions, so we thought it only right to be polite. She was a contractor on zero hours contract so we didn't want her to lose her income.

Overall though the process really helped us understand what we didn't want, so it was a positive. And I get to see Rach talking and looking well whenever I want which is a comfort now. :okay:

New bike just ordered. Same as below but with Ultegra Di2 groupset. It should arrived well before summer, approx 3-months delivery time.

No, we bought in Wiltshire (Mere). What the show and research told us was that running a B&B or similar wasn't really for us and actually I needed a property where I could still get into London for work.

Also Cornwall is very hilly (which we knew) but it was the first time we'd gone down there since Rach had needed to use the walking stick and wheelchair and we just found the whole place just too impractical. Given how fast her illness progressed over the past few years it's a good thing we didn't buy down there.

Thanks. With that huge price tag i hope it serves well at least next ten years.

Well done mate congrats 👍👍. I have an s works tarmac too and it’s been great fun. I think specialized my fantastic bikes. They obviously spend a lot on marketing. But also the design and build quality is excellent. 3 months though! I have another 3 month wait on a frame ordered a month ago which is killing me. But I’m surprised the wait on a tarmac is so long. Did you have to get it imported?

Here in Finland is a retailer which i use it. That Tarmac are gonna build from the frameset which help to get price tag lower, retailer have that frame already. Because some components take some time to order it will take about 12-weeks to get finished. I am gonna remove Quarq powermeter from my Cervelo and install it to Tarmac later, so i need to replace bottom bracket as well. First i was planned Tarmac Pro SL7 but they were all sold out, especially colors i liked.
