PC graphics with a gpu that Zwift allows to run ultra is quite an improvement. Detail, textures and shadows are better. Do you need it? Probably not. There’s a zwift pc master race group in FB that shows it is possible to run ultra on pc for about £200-220 if you source cheap and some second hand parts.
Reality is as @brusgarrd suggests, Zwifts graphics /coding engine is poor and due an update.

I’m sure Dave hopes that Zwift doesn’t improve their graphics engine, as he is always preaching those older low end machines with already dated GPUs. I sometimes think his sole mission is to find a PC at the same price as the Apple TV 4K.
Personally I’d rather buy something newer which also performs great when/if Zwift decides to improve/replace their engine. People buy trainers at £700-£2000, yet wants to buy 6-7 year old computers to save £100-£200...
I’m looking to replace mine, and bought motherboard, case and RAM back in August. However, the fabled Ryzen 3 3300X has still not been delivered!!

Agreed!
I just made up a pc with a 3600, 2060 and 16 gig in an nzxt H1 with M2 and some additional sata drives. I am very happy with it. A bit more than a Dave box 😬😁

Yes, I saw that on the FB page. Mine is solely for Zwift/BKOOL and whatever “nextgen” simulator out there. Zwift is running OK on my dated i7-3770K, 16GB RAM and 6B GTX 1060. Even though the CPU was top of the (consumer) line when I bought it back in 2012, it is starting to show it’s age.
I thought about using my sons 3600 and then he could have my 3800X while I bought a new shiny 5000-series CPU for the Office PC. But I came to the conclusion, that I don’t need the extra power in the Office PC, and that the 3300X would perform just as well or maybe even better than the 3600 in the Z/B computer.

Got to be honest, when I’m touching 196bpm and wishing the top of the climb would come down to me I’m not paying much attention to shading, shadows, or lighting effects.

I don’t want to see the shading or lighting effects either to be honest. But maybe if I buy a new laptop with a snazzy graphics card I can cycle next to people and watch as their heart pumps at 196bpm!

I don't mind if Zwift graphic engine will be updated some day as long as i don't need to buy a new laptop in a next 5-10 years because of Zwift. Bike and turbo trainer are big enough investments to me.

Maybe my original question seemed like it was asking which is the best set up for zwift. But I’m like you juhal. In fact I’d much rather have basic graphics than lag. What it is, is that I’m buying a new family lap top. It’s going to be apple because we all like the apple set up, my work lap top is apple, apple phones etc. So I just want to make sure it’ll run zwift well. It might be that I just continue using the appletv box. But I do like the idea of filming races so I’d like the option.

Thanks Joffey. Any idea what sort of hard drive capacity I should be looking for? I would like to record races.

It’ll be one of the new ones. I like the sound of the instant loading. They’ve already been reviewed and they do sound pretty cool. I just need to know what will be optimal for zwift really.

Mine is 120GB which is TINY - I'd just get the biggest you can afford. Macs last years and you'll fill probably fill it up over the course of time.

Yeah another in the same boat. My wife's laptop is banjaxxed, mine runs zwift alright at the minute but isn't much use for anything else, if I see a black Friday deal might go for a decent spec laptop.

On the other hand may get apple TV for Christmas as outside of zwift we don't really use anything more than Microsoft office on the computer, a raspberry pi would do the job

Yeah the one we’re replacing I think must be from 2010 at a guess. I think it was was one of the last MacBooks they produced before they started taking away all the drives and ports from the sides

After a long time i just ride on Bkool. I don't know how you feel it but somehow ascent hits harder to legs on Bkool comparing to Zwift, or at least different. I don't know what kind of calculations Strava does but it add few extra watts after a sync. Bkool shows 206w and Strava 213w, anyway it felt more like a 213w ^_^

edit. Strava obviously counts in motion watts instead of total. That seems to match with Bkool data.
