I’m going to buy a new MacBook. Is there a minimum of anything I should be looking at getting to get the most out of zwift?
Last year i bought 13" MacBook Pro and it's more than fast for Zwift. I believe MacBook air is fast enough too because of SSD harddrives + other specs.

Paging all those more computer literate than me. Which in case you’re wondering is everyone here apart from @berty bassett ! 😄

My 2015 MacBook Air runs Zwift perfectly fine so I'd say whatever you buy it will be more than adequate. Maybe just look out for hard drive capacity - my Air is lacking there - especially if you are wanting to record races etc.

Thanks Joffey. Any idea what sort of hard drive capacity I should be looking for? I would like to record races.

There be new ones about to be released into the wild so wait for the reviews? Supposed to be big improvement- says apple
Could mean lots of cheaper older but perfectly good models in the refurbished section too

It’ll be one of the new ones. I like the sound of the instant loading. They’ve already been reviewed and they do sound pretty cool. I just need to know what will be optimal for zwift really.

I hadn’t seen any review for the new M1 integrated GPUs they use. A few of the hardware sites are speculating on performance. They are retaining the discrete gpu in some of the more expensive models if that’s what you are looking at?

HELP

I seem to have done something stupid. I was playing around with trying to project my laptop onto my smart tv and then played with a couple of graphics settings to see if I could move from High to Ultra quality.

Then when I loaded Zwift, the graphics are terrible with riderless bikes and stuff like that, making it almost unusable. Can one of you tech-savvy people PLEASE help me out, probably tomorrow. HELP

If you put it that way, in that case customized 16" MacBook Pro with all best parts, that would be about 7000£. That would look good and fast with Colnago as well.

What you might really want to know is if the new Mac’s, Pro or Air given alleged performance of the new Air, will run zwift with the graphics and speed of a suitably fast PC ( like my new build) and they almost certainly will but you may need to wait for reviews OR put some money down on a current gen Pro with discrete graphics. If the M1 Airs fulfil the hype and you can wait a week or two they may be as good if not a better option.

You can only select Ultra if Zwift has recognized your GPU as being capable. You may have the best GPU in the world, but will have to wait for Zwift to “certify” it. Supid, yes, but maybe related to the dated homemade graphics “engine” used...

If you looking for high definition picture to Zwift, Apple TV 4K is not a bad option. But can you have better quality with pc if specs meet performance?.

PC graphics with a gpu that Zwift allows to run ultra is quite an improvement. Detail, textures and shadows are better. Do you need it? Probably not. There’s a zwift pc master race group in FB that shows it is possible to run ultra on pc for about £200-220 if you source cheap and some second hand parts.
Reality is as @brusgarrd suggests, Zwifts graphics /coding engine is poor and due an update.
