My potential GC battle in C category turned out to be a damp squib in the end.

The guy who I was three seconds behind was certainly in the pens (I saw his name and avatar behind me), but when the event started, he didn't. Either he got a mechanical/technical problem or he was called away from his bike and did not come back in time for the start time. All I know is that his avatar never actually crossed the official start line outside the pens, because he didn't show up on ZwiftPower LIVE at any point.

Of course I didn't know that immediately and still sprung out of the traps at high pace thinking I needed to get a big lead over him, but by the time I was halfway round the flat part and hadn't seen his name appear in the right hand side I thought something must be up. So I spent the next few minutes scrolling up and down on the companion app on my phone to see if I could see him (which may have meant a small drop in my watts as my concentration lapsed) and when he wasn't showing up, I just then tried to put in a steady effort all the way to the finish. Struggled a bit on the climb, but still got a PR, so it wasn't like I was slacking or anything.

Think I'll come 8th overall in GC, as the person who had the lead (who only inherited it after last week's race) did a stupid thing and got promoted to B after a hard race at the weekend, thereby throwing away a potential win!
Great result @steverob :notworthy:

Good ride in the meet up tonight , thanks everyone . The race is going to be fast but some may go off too fast , thing is , if you donā€™t try to stay with them you loose loads of time , so carb up , dig deep , but donā€™t go too far into the red . See where we stand in the league after itā€™s done šŸ¤ž.
Everyone disappeared after 36 km , so I ended my ride .

Itā€™s tough to know what the fields going to be like isnā€™t it? Dont know whether itā€™ll be stronger or weaker. And how the team element will effect the race. Will teams make a decision to try send people up the road etc. Itā€™ll be nice when the league groups have been set. And then we can see whose around us and have a better idea of how the races might play out.

Yeah the first race is going to be difficult for our group, with only Bob being comfortably and consistently into B numbers I imagine we will be down the list a fair bit.

Not sure any of us were ever young (at least not on Zwift) We had some great team races though helping each of us at various times to podium in leagues. Looking forward to watching you all work together and hopefully do the same in the new Zwift league :okay:

i am not so sure. Firstly ex CC and now BRT rider Brendan needs to be reminded of the quality of rider he has left behind. Secondly you guys are showing huge progress and potential and racing is where you will realise it. The way you all went up the 3 climbs yesterday bodes well. You now have times to get under. We have work stay in the draft before and then in between and remind ourselves thatā€™s itā€™s only on the steepest bits where the draft disappears. It wouldnā€™t surprise me at at all if one or more got to the end before me.
We also have to , especially taking into account late start and length of ride, get our fueling and hydration right.

Agreed

I think youā€™ve got a great team. some proven, some potential. I see lots of fight and sprit in it and what else can you ask for? Look to the guy next to you and expect the same from him as you expect from yourself. No more no less. Letā€™s face it the cards land where they land. None of us win races generally with the exception of Alan winning some. But we can be realistic. Realistic in the sense that we give everything. Absolutely everything. And then we see what result we get afterwards.
