Have you ever had an injury in the shoulder area?
It could be deterioration of that.

I have had rehabilitation physio on my ankle/foot- I suppose you could call it sports
It did help me, more through guidance on the exercises I needed to do to regain mobility, strength.

My wife had a stiff shoulder/neck. The GP was clueless, so she got herself referred. An x-ray and MRI revealed no damage. The consultant after diagnosed a frozen shoulder. He said they are very common. Exercise or physio dont help until natural recovery takes place, then strength mobility exercises. It took a year for her shoulder to recover

Micheal are you a nurse? Or maybe I have that wrong... could be a repetitive strain injury I guess? I’ve done quite a bit of damage to one of my shoulders when I was younger and as andy says I am suffering from its deterioration now. I get regular massage to try and reset things which sometimes works better than other times. But it’s always nice just getting a massage to be fair. Having a good stretching routine can maintain things too.

Chaps please try and avoid Tour de France spoilers if you can. At least until after the highlights show? If you can’t help yourself it is what it is...But for the guys that are working through the day but are looking forward to watching it later it kind of sucks.

“But for the guys working through the day” 🤔

I have to try and avoid all social media between the hours of 3pm and 8pm, later if I record the highlights package. Even yesterday I was on Zwift at 6pm and was dodging spoilers - eventually after 5 mins of not looking at the right of the screen I turned off the messages.

Close- junior doc (but not much knowledge of muscle pain!)

To be honest I think it's a combination of trying to do pull ups and days of lifting the baby at home (no manual handling manual for that) combined with work days where im sitting a lot more than usual. I'm hoping it's more acute than a chronic issue but definitely have knots in my back so think I'll give it a go

Yeah I think until 8pm is probably a fair aim. Hard to avoid sometimes. Keep forgetting to turn off Guardian alerts on my phone .

I’ve done the same thing... When I’m bored it’s my go to time killer. I’ll be scrolling and then suddenly it’s like ‘oops’! But having alerts set up seems particularly suicidal!

Regarding the massage if one of your shoulder is knotted you can actually feel the difference between the two shoulders when they start working on it. Which is kind of reassuring in a strange way.

:okay: I'm mostly watching the UK highlights from 7pm too. BBC is really annoying ... 9 days out of 10 they have nothing on cycling, then they will randomly post all over the front page!

I'm definitely less fit than the same time last year. Signed up to BRVR to get a bit of climbing in as I feel I'm doing too many flat stages. Picked a course that last Aug took me 1:18 at an ave of 228 watts, 155 hr, 77 cadence. Set that ride up yesterday as a pacer and I held it for 19 mins but then faded badly, finishing 1:25, 204 watts, 150 hr, 70 cadence.

Legs really struggled to push any power towards the end even though HR wasn't high. Couldn't get cadence up at all. Power way down on last year.

It was a good workout and at no point did I feel I needed to stop and I felt 'ok' just turning the pedals over .... it was the low cadence and lack of power that hit me.

Let's see how a few weeks of climbing helps in BRVR (and probably hinders my Zwift racing  )

Rode the BRT Ages League race last night, it turned out to be a good workout on the Richmond Rollercoaster - gotta be one of the longest lead ins ?

Started okay in the over 50's race but eventually got dropped then rode with a guy who seemed contented to stick on my wheel whilst only pushing out 1.5w/kg.
However I managed to latch onto a faster group ( younger category ) and managed to drop Mr. 1.5, stayed with the faster group until the end and even overtook another rider from my age group... 👍

Might give this event another go next week...

I’ve raced in that one too a few times. There’s no softies in any of the age categories. You usually find yourself up against a good mix of A and B riders etc.

I’ve raced 3 out of 3 of both the HERD race series which I think @Brendan Parker is also racing - at least he was on this mornings start list. They have multiple time slots and all results across all time zones are brought together into one league table. There is one racer in the B cat who wins each race hands down - he’s 47kg and 163cm, flys just under the 250w cat limit so he destroys the field every race. Goes by a pseudonym, has no Strava profile, or Zwiftpower profile so he’s either gaming the system or else a Genuine pocket rocket.

in the BRT crit league I made the “mistake“ of entering Cat A in the first week as there were stronger riders therefore more ranking points up for grabs if I had done well. That means I now have to enter A each week regardless or I’ll Get bumped up by BRT in the league. It’s mass start anyhows, but last week for instance I was 9th A, or would have been 2nd B. And still no ranking points gained 😫 but a challenge to try and stick with the small field of As in any case.

Beyond pride and marking progress, is there any purpose to the ranking points yet? Do they have any invitational events for the top ranked in any cats (aside from a+)?

Yer I had full intention of riding this morning but the weather cleared up round here so went outside. Thought I’d better had while I still can.
