When you said 1:15 I thought “hmm, not sure I’ve got the threshold power for that”

I chose a bit of a foolish tactic to start hard and just try and hang on. Promised myself to keep it over 300W/4.1wkg throughout (FTP is 282W). Was in 23rd at Chalet Reynard, and finished in 22nd so very pleased with that.

Finishing time of 1h 7m for the event. No idea of any segment times.

Genuinely worried that my trainer is flattering me. It’s an entry level wheel on turbo. Maybe I need a NEO to slap me round the chops haha
I 'lost' about a 1/3rd of my FTP by switching from Bkool pro trainer to NEO - I could hold 300 watts for 30 mins on Bkool, and was a mid B on Zwift with the old trainer  I should have kept it  Saying that though, you can only use the tools you have and so long as you're having a bit of fun and getting some exercise isn't that the important thing? :okay:

My trainer is a smart trainer, it’s just an entry level one (Tacx Flow).
Have looked at alternatives but kind of want to wait and see what hardware Zwift release. More likely to get power pedals and just use the trainer as a resistance unit I think.
Martin uses power pedals and it's not done him any harm, that's for sure :notworthy: If there's nothing wrong with the trainer then power pedals might be an easier buy at the moment as new trainers are like hen's teeth!

your HR always suggests you are really going for it so who knows.
Gp lama and rides with Japan have converted the assioma’s to spd- a route I might go. Really struggle to clip into look pedals. Had speed plays before so a lot of muscle memory to overcome but it’s mainly the way the left one hangs in the air and having to nudge it just so to clip in- get it wrong and it can get embarrassing. I am commuting to work so a hassle and a danger.I love the assioma’s for power accuracy so Spd conversion may be the answer.
That's really interesting - I use SPDs (as I wanted shoes that allowed me to do the walk of shame when the gradient outside gets too steep  ) and all 3 of my bikes have these now so I'm reluctant to move to anything different. Power on SPD platform would be nice :okay:

Just did a quick search and found these too : https://www.iqsquare.com/products/iq2-mtb-powermeter-single Not sure if they're any good but the price is nice ^_^

This is going to sounds very arsey... but I take neo power meter as my datum line if you like. That’s not knocking you Nick or anyone else. It just seems to have the best combination of consistency and number of users. Especially amongst this group. So if someone is using neo power it’s easier to make a direct comparison.

The general consensus is it under reads power slightly (see @IrishAl going from assioma to neo for reference). But the reason I’m saying I’m not trying to be arsey is that I don’t really care in conclusion and that’s the truth. If you want a power reading that is directly comparable to the datum then go for neo power. But honestly just do it for yourself if you do because it doesn’t really matter at all. My preference would be that my neo read slightly higher to be in line with my power2max and quarq. But what can you do!

I do not want to hear that. I'll be swapping the Bkool pro for Neo 2t next week..

Yeah I hear you @<Tommy>

At the end of the day, nobody can ever be sure of the accuracy of other riders online, can they? I could tell you I’ve bought a NEO and you’d have no way of verifying:laugh:

Within our group I’d like to think there is almost no weight doping, power trickery, or other shenanigans (saw toothing?) but human nature says it will happen so I suppose the lack of consistency and verification is something we either have to accept or stop racing because it’s outside of our control.

The only thing that is in our control is our own conscience and for most here I suppose that means NEO. For me that means anything DC Rainmaker says is accurate

😄

Yeah 100% mate. That’s what I mean. If you want the neo or any other system get it for you. Not for anyone else’s approval. It genuinely shouldn’t matter to anyone else if someone else’s power reading is the same as there’s. I don’t think so anyway. It’s just not healthy is it?! I mean from a personal point of view? You just got to try and beat what’s in front of you. All having the same trainer as someone else says is that if they’re consistent your results should be easier to make a direct comparison. Not that it means anything in the grand scheme of things.

Cheating is something else. The reason I don’t like cheating is I just don’t like people trying to screw me over. And I also think it’s tragic if it’s Just for the sake of a game rather than something that actually improves your life. But this isn’t abig speech. Well actually it’s probably is but I’m getting through a case of cheap plonk so fark it! 😄😄 . When I say it isn’t a big speech I mean I know I’m just saying what everyone else here thinks. That’s why this group is so fu king ace!!!

Interesting discussion. My FTP journey was something like 380w+ on the bkool pro (I think it was the pro that I had) to 330w on the assioma. Since I’ve moved to the Neo I’m at 300w - I think the consensus is about a 2 to 3 % discrepancy is to be expected but then again I read the DC Rainmaker reviews and he has them bang on the same numbers! Anyway I also think I am genuinely down on power from a year ago. I did zero structured training this winter, just raced and TTT’d and phfffaffed around. I’ve actually been thinking I need to ease up on the racing this autumn and do a training plan and see if I can get back. In other words Tommy, Berty and Legs...I’m coming for you. 😄

whilst I do sometimes get miffed about some of the people beating me in races lately it’s been more about my quibbles with Zwift’s maths than anything,,,,like a few weeks ago a guy at 95kg cat B got away up the volcano in a break to beat me, then there’s a fella I know locally who i know I’m as good as yet he’s a top Cat A/A+ but allegedly in a Direto which is meant to be solid. I’ve only just realised I’m Too old to get the call from Dave Brailsford so am now coming round to the fact that we are all just racing whoever we are up against And doing the best I can 🙂

yeah but training plans are so boring. Is it worth the couple of extra watts!?

Plus look how quick Brailsford dropped Wiggins and Froome when they were over the hill. You’re better if here with us! :hugs:
