Probably the wrong forum to ask this question but I do know at least a few of you do actually ride out in the real world once in a while.....

Does anyone use a bike gps tracking security device? I’ve been considering the sherlock or the guardian light

Can't say I've ever considered one. The cafe's we stop at are usually in the countryside so a very minimal risk of theft. Apart from cafe stops the bikes are never left.

I’m not saying whether it’s worth paying or not.

I’m just saying that they’ve removed stuff from the free version to encourage people to pay the sub, As you said you couldn’t understand why they’ve done it.

The value side of it is probably a lot more subjective. For me personally I started paying pretty early on. I figured I was supporting a young company whose product I was using daily as much as anything. I’m glad they’ve generally kept advertising to a minimum too and I figure people paying encourages that model. I think Strava generally is excellent. Maybe we all sort of take it for granted a bit. But it’s completely changed cycling in some ways. And zwift leans on it heavily.

I started paying in January 2015 which was when I started to take cycling a bit more seriously. I don't use many of the features that premium gives me but as Tommy says, it's a great and reliable product and a quid a week isn't much to support that, if you can afford it. Allegedly they aren't making a profit. Imagine if it just stopped one day, it would be crackers. That's why I pay.

This.
I noticed this week that The Guardian newspaper owners announce huge job cuts and reductions in the print copy. Political views aside I can’t imagine a news media world without The guardian’s view point. So I pay for it. I can’t imagine a world without the ability to compare my meagre cycling efforts with others so I pay for strava. Despite the bloody annoying mobile app changes.

When I last looked they needed a subscription and a battery charge. The one I thought looked good hid in the stem.

I pay for the grauniad too, for the same reasons. Everyone has an agenda but I’d suggest they’re far more transparent than any other news source which is why I use (and pay) for it.

Just ridden the Ven Top stage at noon. I had a plan , it went quite well , but ooh was it tough .
Plan : Ride first couple of km at just under threshold, that's a pretty low gradient so benefit from drafting. After that settle into a pace between 250-270 watts depending on flow ,group ,gradient etc . Aim to keep overall average at 250 W. Time target was under 1:30 , with 1:25 being overachieving target .
Well , I managed to tick the plan boxes pretty well .
1:26:42 on ZP .
Pleased with that result but at 10km it felt wasn't much fun .
@BurningLegs and @berty bassett , reckon you'll go sub 1:15 .
Wont be doing it again in a hurry .
When you said 1:15 I thought “hmm, not sure I’ve got the threshold power for that”

I chose a bit of a foolish tactic to start hard and just try and hang on. Promised myself to keep it over 300W/4.1wkg throughout (FTP is 282W). Was in 23rd at Chalet Reynard, and finished in 22nd so very pleased with that.

Finishing time of 1h 7m for the event. No idea of any segment times.

Genuinely worried that my trainer is flattering me. It’s an entry level wheel on turbo. Maybe I need a NEO to slap me round the chops haha

Foolish tactics can pay off if you’re on a great day , obviously you were and managed the rest of the race well . Great ride . Have you any plans to get a smart trainer .

New FTP of 298W - that’s going to make my workouts tough!! Really am worried tat my trainer is leading me up the garden path!

Have been looking at power pedals but I use MTB shoes for easier walking and there aren’t many options. Apparently there is likely to be a flurry of MTB pedals entering the market soon because Shimano’s patent on SPD is expiring this year. Fingers crossed here 🙂

My trainer is a smart trainer, it’s just an entry level one (Tacx Flow).
Have looked at alternatives but kind of want to wait and see what hardware Zwift release. More likely to get power pedals and just use the trainer as a resistance unit I think.

your HR always suggests you are really going for it so who knows.
Gp lama and rides with Japan have converted the assioma’s to spd- a route I might go. Really struggle to clip into look pedals. Had speed plays before so a lot of muscle memory to overcome but it’s mainly the way the left one hangs in the air and having to nudge it just so to clip in- get it wrong and it can get embarrassing. I am commuting to work so a hassle and a danger.I love the assioma’s for power accuracy so Spd conversion may be the answer.
