for what it’s worth I think Amdy and bob are both probably partly right. But bob’s outlook is probably more constructive. Don’t worry about the things you can’t change. Focus on the things you can change 👍

I could see a few in the group behind calling turns and asking about @mjd1988 - where they checking you were ok and enjoying the ride or trying to make you work? 😀

@BurningLegs you are now showing as A in Zwiftpower at 4.01wkg. Time to have some cake(s) 😅

Lovely folks, kept asking if I wanted to go to the front, but I was happy where I was.

Nah I did actually put in a couple of pulls in the small group (we weren't going to be gaining time and I was shattered from the start so more a token effort) but then let them know that a big group was closing fast from behind so we all just slowed up and I think we all latched on.

The large group was actually fairly relaxed except for the really small bumps a couple of km from the finish line. I think if there was a properly co-ordinated chase they might have troubled the front, do certainly wasn't going to pull there (was it Nick who said we must have been working together like Movistar? 🤭)

Yeah someone said we were bossing the front like Ineos. If that makes me Rohan Dennis I’ll take it lol but I said perhaps the chasers are chasing like Movistar!

I can’t help myself on the flat sections - I get a bit bored and start making cheeky comments. Sometimes others join in but it was a bit one way last night. Probably irritated a few, so apologies if anyone here found it irritating.

I know this is true, even when I get frustrated with rides like last night.

If I look where I sit in Strava segment tables, I'm often in the top 10-20% and in age group tables much higher than that.

And I often remind myself that I'm riding against some very strong riders and I'm not doing badly.

I ought to be quite happy when I think that way!
Don't forget @mjd1988 is half your age ..... he quite literally has to live his life again to get to where you are  You 'older' guys are a real inspiration to us 'younger' riders ... :notworthy: (never thought I'd be calling myself younger at the age of 50  )

Done in a Sports laboratory

How the Test Is Performed
VO2 max is typically conducted in a sports performance lab. It is most often graded, meaning that the intensity is carefully calibrated and increased over time. Either a treadmill or stationary bicycle may be used.

Prior to the test, you would be outfitted with a face mask that is connected to a machine which can analyze your respiratory rate and volume alongside the concentration of oxygen and carbon dioxide in inhaled and exhaled air. A heart strap would be worn around your chest to measure your heart rate.

Not to be confused with Lactate threshold, which measures lactate build up with blood samples whilst performing threshold exercise.

Garmin Connect has a Vo2 reading in performance stats. Not going to be scientifically accurate but it can provide a pattern or trend.
Mine is currently showing 56, which coincidentally is my age ^_^ .
It peaked a few weeks ago at 58 after a decent spell of H.I .T intervals, 2,4 and 8 mins .
Been back at work about a month and that's when the trend started falling,
Not sure I want to keep up with the intervals intensity plus working now
High end feels fairly well tuned but legs feel endurance is lacking and fatigue has been feeling high.
It's all a bit of a balancing game isn't it ?
I think I'll try and get some longer steadier rides and cut intensity for a bit .
