So does the music play until someone talks and then cuts out. Or the talking is over the music? I think I might stick to my original plan. Or maybe have music on a speaker and push to talk on discord.
Music plays throughout - any discord chat is over the top. You can adjust the balance so you can hear both. You can also adjust the volume of each participant in Discord which I find useful. I usually put almost everyone on maximum volume so I can have Spotify louder :okay:

Bit of a random question.

Do any of you sometimes make the prime aim of a ride to hit a PB for a particular time? I ask because I do this now and then and I try to make this year's best (critical) power curve better than the previous year.

As an example - my main aim riding today was to try and beat my all-time 5 minute power. I picked a hill climb I knew took me just over 5 minutes. The Gods were with me so I beat my target by 10W and as a bi-product beat my best 3 and 4 minute powers as well.

Am I the only loony that does this?

I only do it on the Alpe. I use it as a barometer for my fitness so I specifically try and set a time on there occasionally and compare it with previous attempts.

I don't have any other segments or targets that I specifically ride for, but I do look at the numbers afterwards.

I find that my best power numbers tend to come in races so I join them with the intention of racing hard and enjoy the numbers as a consequence. An example is FTP - I have done FTP tests in the past but just don't perform well in them, I think due to a lack of motivation. All of my FTP increases have come from races, where I have the motivation of staying with a group or making a gap etc which spurs me on.

I have a nice hilly 50 km loop with just under 1000 m of climbing that I like to use to assess my endurance , I also like to ride it on feel from time to time and guess what my power / heart rate was or to maintain an endurance or tempo pace without looking at the Garmin . Use a couple of hilly segments for similar too .

Thats a good result Martin , I heard Frank Overton from Fascat recently saying : if you’re ove 50 you’re making gains by maintaining your best power or PBS . So ,by getting PBS , you’re really going well 💪

Makes perfect sense to me. Simon Richardson used the epic Kom for his most recent fitness challenge (think it was only 4 weeks but it makes sense)

Thanks. I am doing it slightly differently in that it is the, say, 5 minute power I am after not the segment. I hit the lap timer and have lap power showing and fight to beat my previous best 5 minute average. Doing it on a hill or segment of similar time helps but is coincidental.

No targets on Zwift right now but i try to strike to my current ftp irl ride when i feel fully recovered and i find good place for that attempt. I don’t mind if i don’t manage to do that.

If you could have pushed 3 more watts you could have hit 500. Nice.
I was going to comment on your Strava - I sometimes think I over comment. But it does give me something to do like right now while I’m on hold for tech support.. 8 minutes so far.

Well done to the fast boys👍 Dropped from that main group after a minute and a half and that was that. Ride alone for fair bit then caught and ride with a small group catching stragglers. One guy tried to get away 4 times and enjoyed chasing him back and taking him in the sprint 😁 Nick and Pete and Al on dischord sounding like they were barely breaking sweat 😁
