Hopefully I can podium in C overall, then I'll be there with you on the start line ..... won't see you after that, but you know, I can always wave to you as you vanish up the roadI'm looking forward to racing with you again when you come up to B, @Whorty
You'll be beating that pesky Petersen if we end up in the same league in the future, we can make sure of that
That's really weird - it's like two weeks in a row where we've been able to talk on Discord fine when we're in the pens and also post-race last week, but while we're actually riding, nothing seems to be working? Could you even hear me - I probably only spoke 4-5 times during the race, most of it on the 1st lap.I tried to let you know my state via discord, but I was pretty sure it wasn't coming through. No idea what's going on with that.
It's a shame we can't see more detailed stats like where on the course they achieved their best 1, 5 and 20 minute power. For JB in the D race, I can only assume it was towards the end of the 1st lap KOM where @JLaw was pushing him all the way. The only other place would have been right out the gate, where the leading four of us all went out with the intention of gapping the field (which we did successfully) - the rest of the race he was riding well within his capacity.Just looking at the winners of the c and d cat, 1 minute raw power again seems to be the deciding factor, which makes sense in short races with punchy climbs. Some of the raw wattage is pretty insane, with both races being won by heavy riders.
Bartram put out over 380 watts for one minute in the d race.
Just in the c race put out 522 watts for a minute.

He attacked up the main KOM climb. The other two smaller hills before that he was happy just keeping the same pace as us, especially as we'd already got a gap on the rest of the field due to our mega effort out from the start pens. Once he had put some distance into us over the top of the KOM, he then just did enough to stay ahead - never got more than 20 seconds down the road, but if we started to close the gap to nearer 10, he'd start to speed up again.Where was Jason pushing on that first lap? Did he disappear off at any point and if so what climb? It's the same course tomorrow.
The first split was on the first climb where 8-10 dropped off the back. Nick and I got caught in the next split which was strangely over the top of the first climb. I was putting out more watts on the downhill trying to catch it than I'd been putting out going up the climb!
Another hard race (but then they all are!) and it was a course that I knew did not suit me - I am a fairly steady state rider and this course is very on and off.
A good CC turnout in B Category and we had a chat on Discord before the start. The first split was on the first climb where 8-10 dropped off the back. Nick and I got caught in the next split which was strangely over the top of the first climb. I was putting out more watts on the downhill trying to catch it than I'd been putting out going up the climb! The front 23 were however gone and @BurningLegs and I were in a chasing froup of 8 which included an A rider.
We were together until the KOM where we split again and Nick made the front part. I did hear you say you were going, I just couldn't stay with you.
I rode solo for a mile or so and then 3 guys caught me up and we rode together.
It then stayed this way for a while except we dropped one of our quartet - and then on the 2nd KOM Winther and Bang-Madsen gapped me. I chased hard and caught Bang-Madsen by the banner but Winther was gone. I now had to be careful that the 2 chasers behind didn't catch me as they were putting out intermittently high power surges. I could also see that @Del C was closing in as well with a small group.
As I hit the final kicker I could see the dreaded green circle behind me and the scoreboard said 7 seconds gap. I gave it what I had left and was able to fend off the challenge finishing 24th of 53. This turned into 20th on ZP.
Not a great result but a good solid Team performance for the B's and we are solidly in 3rd place in the league. There are also 3 of us in the top 11 places which is good. Kudos to @Del C for a step improvement and @Alongo who is going great guns.
Vid is here.

I just checked too to see it was the same guy All I'm saying is..... we beat him last week He must have found it harder in C than it was in BThat winther guy was pulling the front group of the C's last week, glad he knows he is a b now! Great write up. B team doing great in gc

I know you said something a couple times, but the balance between the music and discord was off and I couldn't understand anything you said. That's really weird - it's like two weeks in a row where we've been able to talk on Discord fine when we're in the pens and also post-race last week, but while we're actually riding, nothing seems to be working? Also shows how poor I am at reading a race - I thought you were looking really strong! You pushed JB all the way up the KOM (and he's got some REAL short term power) and easily dragged me around for the next 5 miles while I recovered in your draft, so when you dropped back I was really surprised and assumed it was technical/mechanical.
Might be because of the altitude. The thin air above 20,000 feet might affect it.I’ve been having discord issues as well for the last 1 or 2 weeks. Running an iPhone - Usually I could flip between discord, companion app, Amazon music - discord would always remain live. But last week or 2 I notice that discord disconnects me from the chat.

I probably could have hung around with JB until we hit the climb again -- it looked like he was waiting/recovering after we went over the top, but he would have blown me away the second time over. No sense in doing that, so I soft pedaled to recover and pick you up. I'd hoped to pull you up to JB where you could pace with him until the second climb, but the legs just gave out. I don't think he was pushing in response to us getting closer, but instead in response to the smaller hills. I don't think he would have been terribly concerned if we caught him given how he's shown repeatedly he's able to drop us on the climbs.
He's the clear D leader for the league and will run away on any course with significant climbing. His vulnerability is on the flat courses. On the latter we could try a variety of things to make him work a bit harder rather than just sucking wheels.
