Okay.... Will my companion app on android phone talk to the apple TV ?

That I don’t know. I’m not sure whether the app sends info to the servers, and the servers back to the app on the ATV/UI. I think they do normally, but when using the phone as an extra BT channel, I don’t know what really happens.

BTW , what does the green and red shading on Zwift Power in the normalised power section mean ?
Power variability. The redder the colour (and the further along the colour bar appears) means your power fluctuated more. So someone who held 250 watts constantly all race would have no bar, but someone who was varying between 200 and 300 watts might show up with yellow, orange or red depending on how much up and down they had.

Put it this way, the guy who normally wins the D races I'm in can easily put out multi-minute long stretches of 3.5 w/kg and can sprint at over 7.0, but most of the race he sits in the draft doing barely 2.0 - so he normally gets an orange or red score here because he varies so much. Whereas I tend to keep my performance fairly flat around 2.4-2.6 unless I'm involved in a sprint up at the front end for points, but typically fade towards the end where I'm maybe only getting 2.1-2.2 - this sort of performance today got me a green score.

I always wondered what that meant .... thanks for the explanation :okay:

Bit of a dull race in D. Once again we had even fewer riders enter than in previous weeks - only 15 took the start line (just 10 on ZP and one of those was an A, so really only 9). @JLaw and I went out the blocks at full power and only two other riders managed to follow us, JB from DBR (see previous races) and one non-ZP rider (although by the looks of it, he probably would have been a D). By the time we were halfway up the Otley Road, we already had 20 seconds on any chasers, who while they were putting out decent watts, weren't in a tight group, meaning we were still pulling away and the race was already likely to be between just the four of us at this early stage.

I was amazed that I managed to stay with the group over the first two mini-climbs (supertucking on the descents) considering I'd been dropped previous weeks on much smaller ascents. Reaching the KOM, Jeff and JB took a lead over me and the other guy, although I was able to stay within 2-3 seconds of them until the mini-roundabout, whereupon they disappeared. I know it was close on the line (and I saw the crazy power numbers they were putting out!) but according to the results JB just pipped Jeff on the line. At some point on the climb though, the other guy just disappeared and left me on my own to take third.

Jeff then allowed me to catch up with him so I could take the sprint points and basically that was the last we saw of JB - he didn't exactly fly off into the distance, but rather was always somewhere around 10-20 seconds ahead. I drafted Jeff for the next half lap, then all of a sudden he dropped back. I tried getting him on Discord to find out what was happening, but I'm not sure if he could hear me - occasionally I'd get a burst of static, but that was all. He carried on riding, but his power was up and down all over the place, so I wondered if it was a technical problem?

At this point I was slowly being reeled in by a Spanish rider - a quick glance at my browser window told me he was on ZP, so I thought I should up the power to try and prevent him from catching me, but while I was going down the Pot Bank descent, I had more time to look closer and saw he was averaging 2.9, so felt it was not worth pushing too hard as he was going to be DQ'd (he did). We played cat and mouse anyway over the next two climbs - him pulling ahead on the uphill, me catching and passing on the downhill, but eventually he went chasing after JB.

For the last half of the second lap I basically cruised around as I was clear of the riders behind me and couldn't catch those ahead. Tried a few more times to get hold of Jeff as I could see he was getting caught by those behind him - in fact two riders just overhauled him in the final straight, although he beat them overall because he'd picked up enough points on the Primes earlier on.

In the end, only one other DBR rider turned up, so with mine and Jeff's points, we matched their total and so kept CycleChat's lead intact in the team competition.

Today was my best performance in a B cat race, and but for one mistake could have been even better, but more of that later.

Better start again for me today. Not quite there yet, but I was only just off the front group as we turned out of the pens and began the long gradual climb and it didn't take me long to tuck into the front group. Previous weeks I've had to put in a big effort to get back on and I've felt it. Today I was in the group and comfortable.

I averaged 311w to the top of the first long drag out of Harrogate and went over the top just behind the lead group and then got gapped on the descent! Just a slight gap, but the draft stretched it quickly and there was no way back. If I'd been maybe less than 1 second ahead I'd have been drafted down the road and in the lead group with Andy, Nick and Martin. Next time maybe?

Anyhow, I kept at it in a group of 4 and as we got towards the next turn our group of 4 swelled to about 8 or 9 as a following group including @Brusgaard caught us. The pace stayed pretty high but there were quite a few people riding tactically and tucking in to the draft to save themselves before the climbs. I think I did more drafting today than I've probably ever managed before and it helped me to stay strong on the climbs.

On the climb up through the roundabout, I got to the top in 2nd place of the 9, but the group gradually came back together as we made our way through the town, up the long drag and over the top again. I didn't make the same mistake this time. I stayed at the front of the group all the way up the climb and then pushed hard over the top. I think we lost a couple of the group on the descent and about 6 or 7 of us reached the bottom of the climb up through the roundabout together for the second time.

I got a good position on the left hander into the start of the climb, and then powered my way up the climb, staying toward the front and the group split again with 4 of us going over the top together. A fast descent with the 4 of us working well together, we gapped the chasing group and stayed together until a right hander about 1.5km from the end. Second mistake here as 2 of the guys put enough power down to get a small gap which they held up the rise and the 2 of us left couldn't close the gap.

So we approached the last climb up the high street as 2 groups of 2 and when we turned on to the high street climb the other guy I was now riding with tried to jump and gap me. He got a gap but he'd gone too early. I dug in and reeled him back in and then passed and had an unusual feeling of joy as I sprinted hard and slowly pulled away and managed to hold him off by 1 second.

Checked the results and found it was Steen's mate Torben who I'd been sprinting against without realising it, so I suppose we were having a Cyclechat drag race up the finishing straight even though probably neither of us knew it!

Certainly my best result since promotion to B cat. My best average power of 3.5w/kg and best 20 and 5 minute figures as well - 3.6 w/kg and 4.2 w/kg. I finished up 25th out of 39 on ZP, a second ahead of Torben and 15 seconds ahead of Steen and 25 seconds behind Martin.

Still a bit to do on my starts, but definitely better today, and just need to push a bit harder to avoid the 2 mistakes I made today. I'm never going to win a B cat race, but today was another improvement compared to the crappy efforts from me earlier in this league. If I can sit mid table that will be good progress!

Ok I stand corrected... Del, you get the ‘Tolstoy award’ for this week! 😄

You guys really do have impressive powers of recall!

Just looked at my numbers on Strava for the climb. I was dropped second time up and assumed I'd bonked but actually, I set my 3rd fastest time on that 2nd ascent tonight.

KoM1 - 2:54 @ 319 watts
KoM2 - 3:04 @ 294 watts

So only 10 seconds slower on the 2nd climb yet was completely blown away by 5 or 6 riders who powered away from Michael and myself.

Oh well, onwards and upwards :training:

6 full paragraphs just for a dull race Steve... I’m guessing an exciting one will need to be split into chapters 😄👍

Fair play for having such vivid memories of races. It must help future races to be able to reflect like that.
To be fair, sometimes I record the races for YouTube, which means I can play them back while I write my report to make sure it's right!

Now I didn't actually do that this week, but I didn't really need to. When there's only 15 riders in your race and for 90% of the ride you're either on your own, or with just one or two other riders at the front, it's a lot easier to remember what's going on. If I was in B or C having to fight in a pack of 30-40 riders and the constant churn of positions, I'm not sure my recall would be anywhere near as good.
