They are also background watching 5 min and 1 min power too not just 20 mins, where you could sit back and relax for most of the race then unleash a big 5 min power figure and destroy the field

It looks like you will be bumped up to A cat Tommy. There is an A+ cat now. but the table says 250W and 4W/kg is now A on the events ZP page at the bottom.
Bob, Pete, Lee, Paul will be A cat
It looks like Del, Chris, Nick Michael, Brendan will be be B cat
Carl will too soon

Im happy in C ^_^-----for the moment

Theres nowt I have seen that suggests I will be bumped to A- low to middling B at best.

Cheers mate. But I don’t think I’ll get there either. I thought I would a few months ago. But Like you say I’d need to find another 10 watts or so even in a 20 min race to get there. In a longer race I think I’m way of that. I realised a couple of weeks ago I can go as low as 75.5kg if I weigh myself first thing in the morning. Well it happened once anyway. But I don’t think I can sustain it over a day let alone consistently.

Also very happy racing you guys in B

Tommy
You are already capable of 4wk plus over 20 mins and it will likely happen without you realising. Just needs the right race.

looking at your results Tommy, there are quite a few 4W+ for 20 mins. It would only take a series of results to push you into well deserved A

That’s a very nice thing to say Andy cheers mate. But don’t forget it’s not 20 min power. It’s 20 min ftp. I was looking at my results a few months back thinking the same thing. But it seems that 5% is the difference at the moment. And it would equate to a jump forward for me to be honest. Not to say I stop using as hard as possible.

I race like that sometimes if my aim is to try and hang on to the front group (I did just that in the Danish races) - I was blowing up after 20 mins, sometimes less, then having to recover before trying to hang on to chasing groups as they catch me. I think it was you that said this is what I should do to get stronger, as the more I do it the longer I'll be able to hold on and the better I'll get ^_^

I see what you did there 😄. But yes I think the difference is I sit in the lead group on those longer races. For me to go harder would mean trying to break away. So there’s not really much point unless I was actively looking to beat my ftp. Which I can do in shorter races and still be in contusion at the end.

Like I said to Andy I think maybe you’re forgetting there’s a difference between 4w/kg and ftp over 20 mins. You need the latter to get bumped up.

If you entered a few A races, were 'motivated I don't see any reason it wouldnt lift you into that category.

Just shows what a bit of weight training does in the way of altering your body shape and not weight
