Not convinced I would have been there anyway mate
Not sure any of us will be this week. I can see 2nd time over the climb there will be big splits and lots of small groups on the road. Could be wrong, but be surprised if there is a group of 34 this time contesting the win. Hopefully we can get a couple in top 30 riders, but it's gonna hurt!!

I drop my chain in an ultrasound bath with a degreaser. Then once thoroughly clean and washed clean of degreaser. I leave it soaking in an heavy oil till all surfaces are coated. Cycle chains aren't like motorcycle chains where they have rubber seals on the pivots, they are open design, so readily take lubricant into voids
Which ultrasound bath do you use?

I’ve meant to get one for some time but never have

I have keep my hands off products like GT85 and any similar products because i don't trust that product can be good for both cleaner and lubricant, that's why i use separate products, one for cleaning and one for lube. It gives me peace of mind.

It is quite effective juhal. For example if you want to clean your jockey wheels or chainset it isn’t bad for that either. You just need to try and avoid spraying it directly into the front or rear mech as it’ll strip the grease out and might encourage rust and corrosion to the springs and the other moving parts. It’s also really useful if parts like pedals have seized up a little and you want to remove them.

But yeah I agree I wouldn’t use it for lubrication either. People also use that and WD40 etc as lubricants and I wouldn’t really recommend it.

Yeah I'm going to just go all out for the first lap and hope eventually I can recover at some point. I doubt I'll be in the top 30 after the first hill let alone the 3rd - I think you might be our best hope @Whorty

My aim is to try and stick with the lead group to the first climb and then take it from there. I know I can start off at 300 or so watts for a minute or 2 the settle into a rhythm, I'm just hoping I don't need to do too much more early on. Again, on the hill, try to hold on to the lead group; I know now how hard I can push on that climb and for how long, question is, will that be enough?

Really looking forward to tomorrow, could be a good workout and a chance to cement our 2nd place in the league :okay:

Get the size you require I put the degreaser in a plastic tub and water in the ultrasound tank. There is no loss of cleaning function . These tanks can heat the water to 80 Celsius. Which is really useful for stuborn contamination
Thanks Andy.

Couple of questions.

Which size did you go for? I'm only looking to clean bike chains and cassettes so I'm thinking 2L is enough, maybe 3L to allow crank ring cleaning.

And I can't seem to see any price information on their site, unless I'm being thick and just looking in the wrong place?

I bought a large one, because I was cleaning carburettors and engine parts. A 2,3 litre is more than adequate. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2L-3L-6L...-Sonic-Bath-Cleaning-Timer-Tank-/132765289030

I bought one and the tray wasn’t big enough for the largest rings of the cassette to sit in it properly. Not very useful information I’m afraid because I can’t remember how big it is... But I do regret being so tight fisted when buying it and not getting a larger one. Because it does a great job on the bits that can fit in it.

Sorry if this is a repeat but a quick warning to everyone- the challenge this month is related to the Scott MTB. I don’t mind that at all, but Zwift changed my bike to the MTB

No biggie for me today because I was doing a workout but would have been very annoyed if I was late and trying to quickly join a race!!

Same happened to me this morning and same here I was on a work out but plenty of riders were complaining on the message board about it

Details here about it

Like I say chains normally stretch before anything else too dramatic happens no matter what you do.
Do the chains actually stretch as in the metal links get longer, or is it more a case of the pins wearing and the total clearance makes the chain get longer? I ask because I recall a chain ‘snap’ on me years ago many miles from home...when I checked it over I found that more pins were ready to just fall out or at least get pressed out with a chain tool with minimal effort. If it is the pin wear then good lubrication technique would prolong the life, as would reducing exposure to all the nasty grit and grime found on the roads in wet weather.
