Might do that - what time is the race?
19:15 :okay: Cats are segregated so those in your race are those registered to ride in D (although some may be sandbaggers but they will get kicked out of ZP after the race). Only one little climb of about 90 seconds each lap (3 laps), the rest is flat and fast so will suit you.

How often you lads wash and clean drivetrain when you have a indoor season?. Yesterday i removed my bike from the trainer and jesus that amount of dry dirt and grease on jockey wheels and chains. Today is time to clean chain and all dirty parts, should do that once in a month at least.

Once a year, I will lube the chain twice a year

The components on the turbo bike are old and cheap, so I don't pay too much attention to them. The rear derailleur was replaced two years ago and hasn't been touched since. The is little or no build up as I don't re lube stuff much, only when it starts squeaking, when I lube I put as little as possible on and then wipe it off. As the bike never sees the outside it doesn't matter. The headset gets moved frequently to make sure it's not starting to rust.

The winter bike on the other hand gets cleaned and cared for after every ride.

When my bike is on a trainer i will lube chains twice in a month. I clean drivetrain today and jockey wheels was really messy, full of dry thick dirt. I use Squirt wax based lube what keep chain pretty clean but can't prevent all dirt what appears in a month. Anyway not too big job to clean drivetrain once in a month.

Wipe it down before and after every session. Spray chain with GT85 (or similar) and wipe off about once a week and sometimes apply proper chain oil if I think it needs it - but not too much and again wipe off any excess. Give the chain a thorough wash in degreaser etc probably once every 3 months or so.

Before I did this, I used to either not do enough and my chain went rusty (probably through sweat dripping on it) or too much and it and the rest of the drivetrain got gunked up with dried lubricants. Now it's always clean which pleases me ^_^

My method all these years is been that i wash all drivetrain components with pineline biodegradable cleaner and then rinse with water and dry all parts carefully and then spray some lubricant joints to rear derailleur and lube the chain and wipe off the excess like you said. Maybe i will over lube and i suppose to wipe off the excess more often.

Yeah that's pretty much exactly what I do. But wiping the chain before and after every ride, I'm always amazed how black it makes the cloth, even if the chain looks clean - particularly as it's only indoors!

Yesterday when i clean belt from my trainer i noticed lot of dry dirt on a trainer mat, that all came from jockey wheels. It looks that Squirt lube repels dirt very well, needs more attention than lubes what i have use before.

The black stuff isn’t necessarily dirt but chain lube/grease.

Side note but if you do use any type of degreaser like GT85 you need to re lube the chain straight away afterwards every time you use it. In fact some chain manufacturers advice against using degreaser at all as it can strip all the grease from the pivot points in the chain, and the lube you re applying doesn’t always replace it properly.

Yeah I know the black stuff isn't dirt but lube that has worked its way out of the pivots etc - but I find it best to keep the chain as clean as possible (while still lubricated) or that stuff gradually builds up and dries onto the chain and other components

You also said you degrease the chain once a week but only use chain oil if you think it needs it? What you’re doing there is exposing the chain to rust and other nasties. Using a degreaser once a week is very excessive to me but each to their own!

Not trying to tell you or anyone how to suck eggs. In truth most chains stretch before anything else. But the logic behind the manufacturers recommendations is pretty sound from an engineering perspective.
