I think I will give the Feltet.dk race a miss tomorrow evening. I don’t need a crystal ball to know that I will get dropped on the first legsnapper. There is a masters age category race at 1930 so I’ll hop in there and see how I get on with the other old boys.

Just try to keep your 20 minute power below 4.1 w/kg and you'll be on your way to B cat

Do the chains actually stretch as in the metal links get longer, or is it more a case of the pins wearing and the total clearance makes the chain get longer? I ask because I recall a chain ‘snap’ on me years ago many miles from home...when I checked it over I found that more pins were ready to just fall out or at least get pressed out with a chain tool with minimal effort. If it is the pin wear then good lubrication technique would prolong the life, as would reducing exposure to all the nasty grit and grime found on the roads in wet weather.

Absolutely. Riding outside this time of year you really need to be using a wet lube if there’s any chance of rain. Not only do dry lubes not do a great job of protecting against rust. But the sitting water this time of year is more likely to flick up a load of crap into the drive train. Wet lube automatically makes your chain look dirty but it’s doing an important job for you. I’m sure we’ve all been caught in the rain before having just used a dry lube and it doesn’t take long for it to start squeaking it’s disapproval

Chain stretch doesn’t actually refer to the metal links in a chain stretching. But the overall effect of the chain becoming longer (stretched out). It happens unavoidably overtime of course, and it’s actually the result of the chain links slowly wearing grooves into the pins. Even small grooves are exaggerated by the fact that most chains have at least a hundred links in them. I used to think my chains stretched more quickly on the turbo. I findI shift less smoothly on the turbo generally and it caused more abrupt pressure on the chain. Also I guess generally the more power you put through a chain the faster it’ll wear.

Going back to what I was saying before I personally don’t want to keep stripping my chain of all the grease that’s doing a good job for me. So what I normally do is use a chain bath. I fill the bath with water and dishwasher detergent granules. Spin the chain a few dozen times and then do the same with just water to rinse it. I repeat this process until the chain is clear of gunk. If you’re going to do this the trick is to dry the chain with kitchen roll or similar straight away, maybe sit it on a radiator if needs be. And then re lube the chain ASAP. Or you risk it rusting in my experience.

I’ll try and join you for that one if I get home in time Al.

Would be good to have company ...in the 40-50 category mind!

Signed up 👍. Hopefully I can get organised and get to the start line on time ( I turned 40 last year ). I didn’t know such a race existed to be honest.

Interesting article about your avatar and sprinting ..... Sprint Linky

If you set your FTP in Zwift low, say 100, and race, the effect apparently is your avatar will sprint the whole race and it's really off putting to your opponents  Tempting to try this tomorrow night .... the others will think I'm going for the finish sprint right form the off

Or set it to 1000 so you can sprint and no one will know?

Haven't been online in a while. Life just getting in the way. Little time for zwift as well. Wife got the flu. Daughter got the flu. I got bronchitis, just the cough is left...

Given how long it's been I signed up for a short crit today. Damn zwift put me on a mountain bike. So I stopped and switched, which dropped me to something like 23 of 25 on the road. Clawed my way back up to 18th as a mostly solo effort except for the last lap and a half. In a fit of stupidity I hit the gas about a half mile out to get away from the one rider nearby. Held it to the end, got off the bike and barely had enough time to get to the toilet before blowing chunks.

My cough is now back with a vengeance. I was hoping to cough out some crud, but may have made things worse.

It's gonna be painful tonight. Any thoughts if equipment? Even though most of the course is pretty flat I think I'll use lightweight wheels and frame as I'll be aiming to be in the draft except on the climb when I'll be in the red the whole time*

*Or more likely I'll forget to switch from mountain bike
