Depends a lot on the power source. I did use this technique in some races in my early Zwift days, without even knowing it was a bug or something that not everyone could/would do. I just thought that was the Zwift draft effect coming into play.

The NEO2 however is faster in dropping the watts to zero, but my Assiomas DUOs is a bit slower than the NEO2, but still much faster than the Direto.

I recall seeing a few users do the sawtooth technique on bkool too.

BTW my Assioma uno would hold power in Zwift for up to 5 seconds when stopping pedalling at a certain part of the pedal stroke. It would do it if you came to a dead stop on the downward part of the stroke. That was in Bluetooth mode. Now before anyone calls me out I never intentionally exploited that in races but it did happen the odd time like when you would get back onto a group after a big effort and wanted a short recovery. Cadence would drop to 0 so easily spotted.

How do you find the power output compares NEO 2 VS assiomas @Brusgaard ?

I’m quite chuffed about the league. Or should we call it the ‘zwift world championships (of the world)’ . Because it happens once a year? Just a suggestion... 😄

Been at it four years so Cyclechat told me a couple of weeks ago. I’ve always been a competitive sod (although that’s probably a surprise as I tend to hide it quite well...). I know I can be a little challenging at times too... so thanks for not openly condemning me even if you all think it!

But racing and chasing the people in front of me and trying to stay ahead of the people behind has pushed me all the way to this point. Been flattered a bit by other people not being in their best form this league. Although after tonight I can see bridgy is coming back strong. And milzy and his ever decreasing waist size put me under a lot of pressure. So I’m gonna milk this while I can 😄👍. If this is long winded then it’s because I don’t expect it to happen again for a while so I’m going to enjoy it! 😁 Oh and 🏆🥇

(If someone comes and pips my times now this pre mature gloat could be a little embarrassing so please everyone stop racing now!

keep that champagne on ice for a week @<Tommy> - I’ve stage 7 plus 2 other catch up stages to do :becool: . Honestly I think you have it in the bag just looking at the time you put into me on the stagesI’ve done. Well deserved mate. Now if I’d known it was the world championships of the world I might have put more effort in

Haven't done any scientific comparison, and I only just fitted them last weekend. My avg. watts in the two TdZ rides/races done since are pretty much the same as when on the NEO2. Maybe a tad higher, maybe not. With drop outs occurring they should be lower all things being equal, however. But if it is only 5 seconds or so here and there, it is probably not noticeable in the averages.

The race looked full on. I was amazed that you were bombing along in the first few minutes with such a low HR. Then I remembered you have quite a low HR. :okay:

Yep, the race was full on from the start. I nearly lost the pack straight away, think I was concentrating on the recording a bit. Had to keep the watts up for quite a bit to get back on. Lost the front pack at 10 mins which left me soloing for the last 10 minutes to stop the riders behind catching me. Enjoyed it but must do better next time.

@CXRAndy have you tried Crit City? I think you would do well with your power profile

Hi Martin

I tried one for the first time few weeks back. Like you I was caught out by the intensity of the start, went too much into the red. I was lucky to be able to hold a group. I then began to enjoy the short climbs- where like you say, suited me. I could power up and then ease a little a maintain position.

I will be doing more, I need to work on HIT starts :boxing:

If one was to revisit the stages with their soft times and gain enough for GC, wouldn't that be seen as a hollow victory? Asking for a friend.

For me it’s like replaying the cup final if you’re not happy with the result, so I only ever do each stage of a league one time. But that’s just me and for you or anyone else it’s up to you. I dont begrudge anyone who has a different opinion.

In your case maybe wait until next week and you could be another 4kg lighter by then ;)

Did I not mention that at the start? :reading:

Interesting.

IRL I made a conscious effort a few years back to up my cadence, aiming to ride at around 90 or slightly above as opposed to around 80. I felt this worked and improved my performance.

It often feels to me that dropping my cadence to around 75/80 on the turbo means I put out more power consistently, but as you say this means I'm relying more on leg muscle power and less on my heart/lungs.

I do wonder if what the turbo is actually exposing more than IRL can do, is that I'm not quite keeping my pedal stroke smooth enough at higher cadence and that I'm losing some power as a result.

When I drop the cadence, maybe its just easier to keep the pedal stroke even and I'm pushing more completely past the 12 o'clock point at the top of the pedal stroke and getting more out of each stroke as a result?

Certainly, running higher cadence should keep my legs fresher. I'm thinking I need to work on building the muscle memory to keep the stroke smoother at the higher cadence.

I highly recommend trying the Sufferfest 14 day trial and trying the Elements of style video and then in days that follow the cadence drills. Really informative and hugely helpful to me getting my right leg spinning and tracking properly post op. You will need to manually type in your ftp to get the most out of them. You can also use them as warm ups for a zwift race.

Really depends on the type of course. Higher cadence does help sustain a higher level, IF your cardio is on top form.
on stage 7 last night, I started off with a cadence in the high 80's .... as I tired towards the mid section and end of the race my cadence was mid 70's  I try to spin, but I fear I'm mostly a grinder. All those years of riding my SS around London

I assume that was Cat B? 'cos if that was Cat C I'd have been soloing from the pens  You was pushing big watts early on for a long period :notworthy:

i considered doing one yesterday, but went for a re-run of stage 7 instead (I though @Breedon would be there and I planned to ride with him, but not sure he made it in the end). Anyway, I've done one Crit so far and probably need to do a few more to get the old ticker going.
