Was it similar experience as stage 1 ?. I tried to save some energy an stage 1 so i can recover well enough till stage 2. I try to keep up same performance tomorrow what probably means close of 1h23min what was my stage 1 time. Might take few min longer too.

I found it harder as you have the 3 x 8% climbs on the flat section where I got dropped the second time around , I tried the @Whorty approach and tried to save a bit for the climb but it’s brutal and I am glad it is over

I've estimated that Stage 2 should take me about 10 minutes longer than Stage 1 - basing that on adding together my time for a 3 lap ride of Insbruckring I did a few months ago and my second fastest ascent of the main KOM (because my fastest was an absolutely amazing time for me done on fresh legs). What I lose in time for doing both as one activity, I'll gain through having a decent draft.

The good news is that Stage 3 doesn't end with a hilltop finish. The bad news is that the big climb is near the start instead! It's going to be Big Loop on Watopia, which takes you up the Epic KOM (but thankfully not the Radio Tower), round the Jungle Loop and back home via the Volcano (flat). That however is one stage I'm probably going to either miss or have to do via catch-up, as the dates aren't good for me.

My legs are felt very lazy recently so i don’t expect any miracles tomorrow. I just sign in to Trainerroad and i start to do some workouts if it helps me to improve my performance, at least a bit. I ain’t hurry because summer isn’t here yet. Not surprised if my time tomorrow is more like 1h30min.

Cheers for asking. I don't like to bore people.

I am getting on really well with the new coach (started 30 December) who writes custom workouts for me and explains what we are trying to achieve. He was concerned about the amount of high end stuff I was doing and moved me to a higher proportion of Zone 2 but with lots of low cadence work, some sprints etc. He is less concerned about my top end numbers and more concerned with resilience, repeatability especially as I target the longer races/events. He has looked at the National Masters Championships and advised that the top end of the 60+ are mainly Cat 3 with a few Cat 2 and if I want to be competitive, I need to get to Cat 3. Made me think!

Having said he is not concerned about my top end at the minute - this month I have set my best ever max power, best 5-15 second power and last week my best 20 minute power (297W) so I am pretty pleased. I'm also down to my lowest ever weight (11st 6.9lbs today) and am well ahead of my 2019 January fitness so I am pretty satisfied how things are going

He is an interesting chap as well. Irish National Champion in his age group and he wrote the Story of the Ras.

297 w at 73 kilos?😳 Yeah, you stay away from the racing for a while mate You’ll just be disappointed 🤪

Hey,

I'm a total newbie when it comes to this sort of thing.
I appreciate that as someone without a power meter or smart trainer I am very much a second class citizen in Zwiftlandia, but I'm ok with this, I'm not using it for competition, I'm using it to keep my turbo time from being cripplingly tedious.

That being said, I did participate in stage one of the TdZ the other day, cat D, it was fun but tough (as my HR data shows), I finished 76th out of 127 after me and another guy were shelled out of a faster group and teamed up to stay clear of the bigger grupetto.

I know that any results based on virtual power are meaningless (my virtual power on zwift is about 20% higher than my virtual power on GoldenCheetah for the same wheel speed, for instance)

Do you think there's any point in signing up to zwiftpower considering I'm unfit, heavy, and am stuck using virtual power for the foreseeable future?

Cheers,
Ed

I rode stage 1 Tdz twice and the first ride I almost treated as a recovery ride with my heart beat at a steady 115 bpm (max is normally at 170) but went for up Leith Hill and felt good and had a pb.
2nd time my heat rate was 135bpm for 23 miles and still went for it up Leith Hill.
The 2nd time I was faster by 5 to 6 mins but lost 35 seconds up Leith.

what time is everyone racing?

I’ve given my knee a good whack at work today and I’m not sure I’m going to race. I’ll spin and see how I feel I guess. But I can join at 6,6:30 or 7 if I do race so let me know what suits.

My preference is 6:30

I am good to go for 6 but can delay if most peeps want a later time

Don't expect anything higher than 1on the excuse scale if the knee is still working at all. Tommy the judge vs Tommy the injured. Tough on yourself is my bet.
