Hey Bridgy does my time last night on out and back count? I did it on a TT bike as I wasn’t expecting to find anybody worth drafting as I was going solo. If it’s against the rules, written or unwritten then no probs. I don’t want to be up in the Court of Arbtrition for Sport or UCI dock 😄
When we set up the league the stated rule was TT bikes only if the stage was a TT. We discussed this only a few days ago and agreed that using a TT bike for a solo attempt at a league stage that wasn't a TT would potentially be unfair - because often people can be isolated in one of our races as there aren't many people, so they don't get much/any draft benefit anyway, but miss out on the advantage of a TT bike. I feel bad saying this as your time was absolutely outstanding as a solo ride, TT bike or not. Here's what I posted when we set up the league :
RULES:
- Use real weight and height only(🙄)
- TT bike only to be used if the stage is marked as a TT
- If you can't make one of the meet-up races you can set a time (on the appropriate bike) at another time before the league finishes, but not in an organised Zwift race or event
- Any pre or post race excuses to be oficially rated by @TurboTommy whose judgement will be final
I don't feel comfortable being the UCI Commissaire! - happy for the community as a whole to decide and I will go with the flow. However we should try and have some rules in order to be fair to everyone and encourage participation in the organised meetups (or at least not potentially disadvantage those who do the meetups)

Well done today guys. Strong stuff all round :bicycle:

I don’t think I’ll get a chance to re do the course. Picked up a bit of a stomach bug from my youngest. Now I’ve been put in quarantine, which apart from the odd spate of vomiting, is actually quite peaceful. So not all bad I guess.

I agree on all fronts. For starters I don’t think it’s fair on you to have to be judge and jury.

Also we did say no TT bikes. It’s sucks balls for you Al because that was some effort. But I think we have to decide what the rule is and be consistent no matter what the circumstance. For what’s it’s worth I don’t think we should have tt bikes.

An example for me would be someone who often finds himself riding alone in the organised races. He would prob be better off on a tt bike too. So should we say tt bikes allowed all the time or not at all?

I vote not at all but obviously happy to go with the majority.

edit: I’ve just thought about it a little more and I really don’t have strong feelings on it either way. I think we just need to be consistent.

No surprise you and Tommy ganging up on me lol!! Only kidding. Your both 100% right. :okay:

I missed the rules being set and it was only when Milzy asked did I think my attempt might have been illegal. Looking back on it if anyone gets dropped in one of the normal meet ups then they’re on their own with no TT advantage.

I’m going to take another go at that stage tomorrow late afternoon. This time on the Tron, with better pacing I still think I can do better than my first attempt. No u-turn mistakes this time. I’ll also take a crack at the TT stage tomorrow morning to kill half an hour.

Did the ramp test today. What a miserable experience that is!

I don’t seem to do well in FTP tests, and today was no different. It gave me an FTP of 227W which I thought was low, so went up the Alpe for punishment.

At the end of my Alpe ride, literally right after a specific FTP test my FTP increased to 249W!

Is there any consensus on the most reliable method to determine FTP on Zwift??

I'm not too bad on the FTP tests, and like you I 'score' quite well on climbs. I'm rubbish though on flatter rides. Weird. All watts are equal, and yet style of ride for me makes a big difference.

Al, I will try and join you - bit of drafting possibly to counter the TT bike benefit! Let me know what time or send me - and anyone else who is free - a meetup invite.

I agree, climbing is easier than getting over a big gear on the flat and relentlessly pushing!

I was very happy with my Alpe time (sub 1hr!) but not sure if I will ever do an ftp test again when I could just climb the Alpe instead!

I feel the same. They’re a great way of marking progress I guess but I’m cr@p at them.

keep on trying to knock your alp time down is a good motivator

I once got slated for doing a 120 min group ride on Zwift. I think that’s about my limit. I couldn’t face another hour on top.
Easily the hardest ride I’ve ever done on trainer
2:40:48 for my last 100km on Zwift and new I had done it , hopefully another one tomorrow
very similar. 2.37 today. In a good group sat about 2.3wkg. It’s just relentless no rest or time to stretch.
have a goodun :okay:
