The new segment I set up is taking for ever too fully populate with past results and its been stuck at tne same figure all day so I am beginning to wonder if it will work at all. So we might have to bite the bullet and use the official segment - bit of a bummer for anyone like me who stopped after the meetup finish line as I'm not sure how much time was lost. Will have to warn people for Tuesday and Thursday rides to keep riding to the banner...

I slowed down after the the end of the meet up segment but if I was guessing I was still going around 200w because I wasn’t sure about the situation. It sounds like you slowed a bit more than that? It’s bit annoying I guess. Maybe try setting a new segment again? Or alternatively you could say it wasn’t an official live race day. So tough tits and lesson learned for anyone doing it on race night.

I had a little trundle around Surrey hills tonight- It was meant to be a zone 1 ride but couldn't resist in testing my abilities up some hills. Despite new PB's up Fox and Leith, I was a significant margin off you lighter CCers. Fox, I ave 319W and still nearly 2 mins down on Lee, a minute + down on Tommy, Paul, Bob.

Just laying groundwork for excuses this week

@Whorty is right it was only 150m or so. Having looked at strava, in that section between the meetup end and the banner my speed slowed to 19kph whilst yours hardly dropped and was 41kph, with Lee's at 44kph - but because it was such a short distance it looks like I only lost about 10 seconds or so. It's just annoying to have worked so hard for the whole race and know you have thrown away time like that - and I thought others might have done the same.

I think "tough tits" might cover it - at least most of us will have another couple of shots at it if we want, and for you if that was the only time you can do it at least you know you hardly lost any time at all which is good. No need to stop it being used for an official time as no one got any advantage - quite the opposite!

I will try and warn others on Tuesday and Friday

Don't feel too bad Andy - Lee's also 44 seconds quicker than Alex Dowsett up that hill!

Yeah it is a pisser mate. I agree it was such a tough course and mentally it would of been very easy to raise the white flag. But we didn’t and then we lose time at the end like that....Beforw the line I was looking at the distance and I was beginning to question whether I’d already passed a banner and not noticed. At one point I was looking at your w/kg to try and work out if you had slowed to work out if I had missed the banner or not. And it meant in the lead In I never really unloaded a proper sprint. But having said all that it sounds like you still fared worse.

But in all honesty I’m very happy with the effort. I won’t get the chance to do it again and if it gets beat then hats off to you guys. I had a result in a way because I thought I’d be doing it on my own like lee had to but instead I had the privilege of you chasing me up the hill!

I looked your best effort up that zwift mountain plus big tower or whatever it’s called, and you put out massive watts. You’ve just got to lay off the biscuits and white bread mate and you’ll be in power house mode again!

I've been trying to include a bit of running in my exercise recently - probably not ideal for peak performances on the bike at the moment but hopefully a price worth paying in the longer term (for overall health and convenience of being able to run for exercise when cycling is logistically harder). I joined a gym about 6 weeks ago and have been doing 5-6km runs on Mondays and Wednesdays on the treadmill, and recently added slightly longer outdoor runs at the weekend to that. To be honest it was a lot worse when I first started but my legs are getting used to it a bit more now so I do tend to recover quicker. And most importantly I'm enjoying the new challenge!

So no excuse - my choice! And looking at my watts for that ride - 300w for the climb and 290 overall, that's about my limit I think. I could maybe squeeze 5 watts or so more on a really good day but that's about it and I think you'd have still beaten me then anyway!

Annoyingly, one thing that has NOT been a result of this extra exercise is any weight loss at all so it's not even helping me in that way either :headshake:

I did some running last winter ... mainly did the running on a cycling “rest day” but in hindsight it probably just killed my legs for the rest of the week. It is real handy for those nights when the weather isn’t great as somehow it seems easier to convince myself to go for a run than put on the winter gear to cycle.

what times are on the board then for this weeks sector? By the sounds of it I’m not going to be able to rest on my laurels.

I’m not sure yet when will suit me to go at it...planning to cycle to work tomorrow as it gives rain to for the remainder of the week...i might have to give it a crack on weds evening if anyone wants to join in then?

I’ve heard it’s easier for a runner to take up cycling than it is a cyclist to take up running. I don’t know how true that is?

I‘m not sure what segment we’re using Al but I think Paul, lee and myself are all around 54 mins ish.

He needs to be at the top of the Pretzel @ 32.30mins to have a chance at the title

This segment - https://www.strava.com/segments/12483517?filter=overall&gender=all

N.B. Last Meetup we did, the segment finish banner was AFTER the meetup finish line, so keep pedaling after you cross the blue meetup line (not all of us did )

Times so far that I'm aware of:
Tommy: 53:57
Lee: 54:38
Bridgy: 54:51
Whorty: 1:01:25

@IrishAl I can't ride tonight either and Wednesday probably best for me too so I could possibly join you Wednesday evening - what time would be best for you?

No point in over analysing these things guys seriously....No good comes of it anyway honestly....Anyone watch the rugby over the weekend? I hear the grand prix was very exciting. Anyone planning to see the Anthony Gormley exhibition at the royal academy? What about that new joker film eh? Weather looks nice today doesn’t it? Brexit any one? Eh? Eh? Eh?!

@<Tommy> - just doing a bit of over-analysing, and if my maths are correct, the current situation would leave me 2 seconds ahead of you overall - can't get much closer than that!

Now, are absolutely you sure you won't have time to make another attempt so that I know wehther I'll be safe taking it easy if needed...? :cuppa:
