i'd had a fun race so wasn't too bothered by a win. 4 of us had broken out early from the C group. 3 of us worked hard to break the elastic to the chasing group, but the Canadian chap was unwilling to help and only wheel sucking. Tried to drop him a few times, and he was more than capable of holding 4+ w/kg to chase back on, but as soon as he got back on he'd sit at 2-2.5 w/kg. If he ever went out front, he'd drop power right down to 150 watts to force one of the 3 of us back in front. On the last but one loop, I dropped all 3 on the climb up Whitehall. I slowed a bit down the strand, but only down to 3 w/kg. The 4th rider popped, but the Canadian just sat on the girl's wheel as she pulled them back to me along the Mall. I decided then to drop watts right down and just sit on his wheel. The girl started to pull away and by the time we reached Big Ben on the last loop she was 11 seconds ahead and 1/2 way up the Whitehall climb. I jumped the Canadian and hit the climb hard. He tried to stay with me, but after about 20 secs I could see him struggling, then he popped. I bridged to the girl by the top of the climb and rested on her wheel past Charing X station. To ensure the Canadian couldn't get back across I started to work again to extend the gap. I probably could have beaten her to the sprint as I'm pretty sure I would have had a bigger sprint, but I figured she'd done more than her fair share of working in the group of 4, plus let me sit on when I bridged, so was happy to let her take the win.
Had she not worked as much I wouldn't have been so generous
As for the wheelsucker ... I'm fine with someone sitting on if they are on their limit and you see that they can't really hold power, but the guy yesterday was clearly strong enough to chase when dropped so there was no way I was taking him to the sprint. He was clearly saving all his energy for the sprint ... dropping him on the climb so he didn't even get to the sprint was pleasing
