Fantastic morning. After yesterday's 30 miler my legs were a bit heavy but couldn't let such a beautiful day go to waste. I just did a 20 miler circuit between Harlow and Hoddesdon, including a visit to Aldi for a couple of bits. I went out along the river (or canal) from Roydon to Hoddesdon and came back on the roads. The picture here is just before where I crashed my Trek into a ditch a few weeks ago writing off the front wheel.

Just as an aside to my little ride this morning, I did notice a lot of new lakes around here, & a new river running across one of the roads. ^_^

Something tells me there will be a lot of :sun:posts today! I made myself wait until late morning so I could ride without a jacket (adds 5mph to your average speed, I swear it's true). Rode out to Chew Valley Lake along with, well, about every other cyclist in the Bristol area. Not an original idea, evidently! I had to make a wrong turn first, though, just to make it interesting. I took a picture to commemorate my error:

At least finally I learned to include my bike in my pictures!

Chew Stoke was quiet except for walkers and cyclists. The same roads were closed on my last visit just two weeks ago. They're just wet now; it's nice to see the water has receded somewhat.

Chew Valley Lake with sailboats just visible.

I did manage to get lost on the way back; quiet country roads make my mind wander. I can think of some pretty goofy things as I ride. Just before I missed my turn, I was practising how to say "Chew Magna" the way Dr. Evil says "liquid hot magma" (an intellectual powerhouse, I am).

Well, wasn't this the day we'd dreamed of since.... October? I set out from Hardwick heading towards boxworth 9.15 and a touch cool on my bare arms and legs. My Montane featherlight gilet is worth it's weight in erm.... Well, you get the gist.
A long tailed tit flew across my path ind into a hedge, later on I saw 5-6 yellowhammers, not seen any for ages. I turned towards Ellsworth then up over the hill towards papworth. I then took the smooooooth road towards Hilton and on to Gravely I'd thought the headwind was fairly testing but it ramped up through here. Croxton and Gamlingay followed and then through the lovely stretch of road at Hatley. I dropped down to the Wimpole roundabout and headed toward Cambridge on the A603. There was a slow moving vehicle on my shoulder, I could sense it. Then the motorbike pulled along side... "Morning" he said, his orange jacket said "caution cycle race".... Oh bloody hell, time to look like a complete Nobber! 5 of them came past me, but one got spat out the back, but I didn't rub it in. I turned for old Wimpole hill, the queue of traffic for the big house stretched to the end of the drive! Then it was out through the Gransdens, Bourne, Kingston, Caldecote and home.
Plenty of cheery riders out today. 52 miles of lovelyness!:sun:

63 miles the journey Kineton the destination, it was meant to be a rest weekend this weekend but with the sun shining I couldn't resist, the ride down was hard and slow into the wind I got caught by a couple of the club lads just past Bascot Heath but rode past them whilst they were waiting for the group to reform, they went straight to Kineton while I did a loop using a farm road, the picture I took looking over Chesterton didn't come out so heres one I took a couple of years ago
Chesterton b.JPG

When I got to the deli it was crammed, and I had a wait for my food, gave me a chance to have a gossip. most of the ride back was done flying before a tail wind when I got to Chesterton instead of turning right for the farm road I turned left and went past the windmill, part of the route of next weeks ride http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/mikes-myton-ride-16-03-14.150960/ stayed on the route through Harbury and onto Cubbington, the other side of Cubbington I turned right onto the main road and followed it through Bubbinhall and Ryton to Wolston, was surprised to come up behind a platoon of solders as I rode into Wolston, their kit looked WW1 so I think it was a enactment group, the nasty surprise was by the garage in Binley Woods, I didn't see a pothole and hit it at 22-23mph, a huge jolt, a double bang and the bike veered sharp left, if it was'nt for the drop curb for the garage I'd been on the floor, as it was I got it sorted out and carried on, I think I've damaged the bike and will have to check it out later, apart from the pothole an excellent morning out, it was lovely to have the warm sun on my back and listen to bird song as I rode along.

Set off on the nicest and warmest day of the year so far with high hopes. All was going great until I reached down for a drink, no bottles! I'm sure I put them in the cages, contacted Mrs Smoo to check the house and shed, nope not there, so that's another two bottles lost, bugger. Cut things short then as I'd no money on me either to get a drink

Anyhoo, ride data is HERE.

[EDIT] Went to fuel my van up ready for tomorrow then had a mooch and found 'em, not much use now though!

Morning: 35 glorious miles through Cheshire lanes. Great to see so many cyclists out.

Afternoon: had to drive somewhere through Cheshire lanes. B***dy cyclists everywhere. Should be banned.

Last night I was bad, very bad, I blame it on the guests. A picture says a thousand words and this just about sums it up.

So a bit of atonement was called for, I decided to be a bit of a masochist and hit the hills. Got changed went outside realised it was rather warm went back inside and grabbed some more summery attire. Mitts not gloves, 3/4 bibs and a short sleeve jersey, can't be bad. No cafe stops and no cake, just a bag of Lidl foam strawberry things.
Bit of a favourite loop for me up Pexhill over The Cat to Buxton and back via Long Hill and Whaley Bridge. Apart from The Cat and Fiddle being like a scene out of a Mad Max film with various motorbikes and even a matt black hotrod making what can only be described as loud farting noises, the ride was a brilliant hangover cure with plenty of warm sunshine.:sun:

:sun::sun::sun: and 28°C if I believe the thermometer at SARL Chene - I think it's at least 2° too high

A trip along the Vienne valley today starting with Saint Junien. This is the bridge into the town with the "Chapelle Notre-Dame-du-Pont" at the end.

1.JPG

From here it's along the north side of the Vienne to St Brice sur Vienne where there is this railway station . The line runs from Limoges to Angouleme and so far in my 3 years of living here I've only seen one train:laugh:

2.JPG

Further on to Saint Victurnien where I cross back over the river and take a roundabout route to Cognac-la-Forêt.
This is Saint Victurnien from the South Bank

Spring (at last)
Took a quick spin around Knitsley, before a quick cafe stop at the farm shop, and then a return to home via the railway tracks. Lots of PBs on Strava show I’m getting fitter, but there was an old bloke on a commuter who I had a chat and a ride with near Esh Winning, before he blew me away on the hill to Billy Row, and another old bloke (this time on a road bike) who I had to work hard to catch above Crook, and then spent a pleasant 10 minutes riding with him just chatting. More room for improvement I think.

43 miles and a lovely piece of chocolate brownie at the cafe stop, what more can you ask for?

No pics as I forgot my camera
I spent an enjoyable 2hrs on the drive way cleaning my yellow summer bike. It has spent the last couple of months hung forlornly on the wall, caked in muck from the New Years Day ride.

Once it was as bright and shiny and yellow as the glorious sunshine I donned my yellow cycling shirt and did a little 2.75 mile excursion to the nearby park to say hello to wife and kids that had met some friends there.

So that's my ride today, 2.75 miles and no cake (not even an icecream ). At least I get to commute for a night shift tonight and my summer bike is now ready for summer :sun:

That look idyllic alex

I did a 26 mile ride over to blackmore but i felt i struggled today, for some reason my legs felt very heavy. then a mile from home caught some bloke up who obviously didn't like me behind him and he went hell for leather on a descent.I couldn't be bothered to respond.
