am doing a leisurely 25 mile jaunt down to Garstang and back... no wind.. overcast, and taking a buddy for a change.
...and a very pleasant couple of hours it was. The sun was :sun: once we'd got a few miles south of overcast Lancaster too... even took my gloves off. That's a first for 2014  My buddy is off to cycle around Morocco on Tuesday... I'm not jealous :cursing:

Woke up this morning to clear blue shies and :sun: :hyper:

Our idea was to head for the beach to get some rays and maybe and ice cream or 2 and forget anything about bikes.

Then....

I had a brainwave  why not get the bikes in the car and drive up to North somerset and The Strawberry Line, an old railway line running fom Yatton to Cheddar. So that is what myself and Mrs Aud did. It was, depending on how you view it, either a total disaster, or an unremitting success  !!!

I should say Mrs Aud likes her old hybrid bike, but last year bought a spesh Dolce road bike. Although she is happy with it, it has never really got to her. However, as my new road bike has disc brakes, my old (8 months old approx) Pro Lite Bracciano wheels had been put on her bike. To add to the issues, she has had major knee surgery and has to pedal with her heel, she is also quite self conscious of herself.

So, off we headed.

Parked up at Yatton train station (£1.40 all day) got the bikes out and set off

First off, the surface isnt that good for road bikes, it is ok for everything else though. Secondly, busy wasn't the word, so many bikes, kids, dogs, walker and fwits milling about.

Once out of the mass it did thin out a bit but some parts were muddy. We had agreed if she felt tired then we would turn back, and as it is uphill to Cheddar i didn't see any problems.

At the 8 mile mark we stopped to enjoy the view and to have a snack. Mrs Aud then said we would turn here, rather than going into cheddar as she didnt want to overdo it, that was fine with me and so we turned back. This is where it got interesting!!!

After a mile or so she said, "I thought it was uphill on the way back".

When i explained that we had in fact been going uphill and since turning round it was all downhill she said "but we went downhill to get here".

Now she knows what a decent set of wheels does

We got back to the car all to quickly, with Mrs Aud shooting through the narrow metal posts that are meant to slow people down, got dripped on in the tunnel and really started to like the bike. She has said its been transformed and even said she is going to sell the hybrid:huh:

So, as a bike ride for distance, effort, etc, not very good.
As a ride of revelation, well it can't get any better.

16 miles all in.

I have now been given the task of planning a flat 25 miler across the somerset Levels for when the sun is out next. :wahhey:

What a nice day.

Most of the route is road free, this is about the only bit you do on tarmac.

How much does it cost to Oldham?
Last night I was bad, very bad, I blame it on the guests. A picture says a thousand words and this just about sums it up.

So a bit of atonement was called for, I decided to be a bit of a masochist and hit the hills. Got changed went outside realised it was rather warm went back inside and grabbed some more summery attire. Mitts not gloves, 3/4 bibs and a short sleeve jersey, can't be bad. No cafe stops and no cake, just a bag of Lidl foam strawberry things.
Bit of a favourite loop for me up Pexhill over The Cat to Buxton and back via Long Hill and Whaley Bridge. Apart from The Cat and Fiddle being like a scene out of a Mad Max film with various motorbikes and even a matt black hotrod making what can only be described as loud farting noises, the ride was a brilliant hangover cure with plenty of warm sunshine.:sun:

What did everyone else have?

Glorious 50 miles topping up the tan over cragg vale and windy hill. Bloody lovely.

What a great weekend for cycling. My weekend started off with my usual Early Birds Ride. It started cold and damp/misty at first. We then stopped at our now regular cafe :hungry: Folks at the cafe thought my Banoffe Tart was a little small so they piled on a box of coconut cookies. Which was a good job as the sun came out and my mate suggested we should go for a longer ride; counting the slow trundle through town it was a 130miles day.

Edit: Oh I forgot the bloke I passed a few miles from town, he jumped on my back wheel and drafted me all the way and then sprinted past into town a few files later; I had nearly 125miles in my legs at that point but shoosh don't tell him that leave him to bask in his victory ;)

Got back to the flat and fitted my summer wheels for today's ride; I wasn't intending on going far after yesterday but when I left folk around 67miles it was such a nice day I ended up making it a ton.

I didn't take many pictures but when I stopped for a natural break  I decided it was apt to.

No sunshine or blue skies up here so it was just over 50 miles of drizzle and a stiff westerly wind.
Rode up to East Kilbride and met 6 other club members for the usual Sunday morning cafe ride. 1 of the riders was one of the clubs promising youngsters - a 13 yo lad and he is a strong and confident rider. We did a rolling route then a bit of through and off before our cafe stop in Strathaven. Then it was downhill and a tailwind home.
This time next week I'll be on Mallorca so hopefully there will be sun and blue skies for the whole week I'm there

First ride this year in shorts.
Nice to feel the breeze on my knees again!

Pulling through
Lovely weather somewhat undermined by three visitations! On the second occasion I thought I'd missed a bit of glass from the first but still couldn't find anything. by the third I worked out what it was...
There was a small split/hole in the tyre right down next to the bead. Somehow a small boot made by folding the paper instructions from the repair kit got me home.
on the bright side my thumbs got a nice workout.
Gorgeous day tho. Great to see all the pics and stories racking up above.

I agree. 4 bottles of red between 2 last night.....mind you, because I do my cycling at the weekend I am beginning to think it is actually impossible to go for a ride without a hangover!

I went under the new Walton Bridge

Then I turned and retraced my route back to Hampton Court, through Bushy Park and home.

Took the road bike out for its first ride of the year (apart for a run round the block last week to check out the upgrades fitted over winter). 56km at a steady pace taking in some short hills.

Was hoping to go a bit further but Mrs SG wasn't feeling up for it after her 20 mile run yesterday as part of her marathon training.
