A Minging Manc...
There was a young lad on a mtb to the side of that small puddle that told me not to go through it as it was too deep, no skills these youngsters, I've been trained by @I like Skol

This reminds me @potsy, My kids are wondering if you have bought that MTB yet? They are on holiday this week and wouldn't mind taking you to Clayton Vale at weekend for a beginners course ^_^

So yesterday I had the whole day to myself.......
70 mile spin, .....I think so !
Beautiful day so I left the house about 9.40 ish and with my new Garmin edge Touring in front of me I eased my way along the twisty country roads heading towards Carmarthen. Roads were quiet which was a nice change and once I had done my 16 miles that got me into Carmarthen, I changed direction and made my way to Llandeilo. It was bang on 30 miles as I reached Llandeilo and I debated turning round and going back the way I came but as it was so sunny I decided to navigate the slightly longer way home.....
37 miles in and I saw my turning I needed to take ....

The A482 was a stunning piece of road however I hadn't anticipated it being such hard work......
I decide that at 40 miles I would have my pit stop

After my 10 minutes downtime I headed along the A482 for what seemed like an eternity but eventually came to the awesome descent into Lampeter.
From Lampeter it was about 18 miles to home and I must admit I found it a struggle......The reason for this is because I must have gone over some glass I saw in the road at carmarthen and developed a slow puncture.
Sorted that out this morning.
I did however manage to complete my biggest ride to date and also climbed over 5,600 ft.
Legs were burning after but thoroughly enjoyed :bicycle::thumbsup:

Just a utilty ride over town today to get some plumbing tools (failed, they didnt have what I wanted).
More than 10, less than 15 miles on the hybrid(which I found the reciept for yesterday...had it since 2002 )
Uneventful, but was overtaken by a guy on a similar bike, i tagged on but struggled to keep up, nevertheless, it turned into a 4mile chase that left me breathless. All good though, pushing along will hopefully help me get some fitness back and work my lungs hard.

Decided to take to the trails this morning, no real distance but wonderful none the less.

Rode through Helston down to the Penrose estate the lake looked incredible with the early morning fog.

When I sent my OH to do the weekly shop on Saturday (with a shopping list) I had expected the items on said list to have been purchased.... err well some were and some were not, so this morning, needing all of the main items for tonight's evening meal, I had to go into town to purchase said ingredient. So seeing as it was sunny and calm when I woke, and knowing today's forecast, I decided this morning was a better time to be out than this afternoon. So a quick spin into town (through 2 lots of flood water), walking up the one way system because I refuse to cycling in a figure of 9 (only a mirror reflection) just to get to a supermarket in the middle of a totally mad one-way system and my first visit to our new Waitrose was complete! Only taken since November to get me there! Out was slow due to my asthma playing up, home again was even slower due to the food shopping being oh so heavy, but I have managed to get home before the rain arrives...
http://www.strava.com/activities/114184632 At least I managed it in under an hour cycling though!

Did a meandering route from York to Helmsley and back. Maybe 65 miles in 5 hours. Didn't feel too bad after altho' it was a trifle nippy, and am just about to whiz into town on the shopper to ..er. . shop. No, you can't keep me off the bike..

Despite the weather looking a little iffy, my lad and I went off up to the Royal Landscape for him to adjust to riding a bigger 24" bike. The weather started with a little light rain, but by the time we got into the village it was just cloudy. Heading up past the Golden Jubilee statue we did our deed of the day, assisting a chap on a nice recumbent trike, a 'Trice' think, who had a chain fallen off and some strapping in issues. A push start up the hill saw him on his way, and the occasion was followed by my lad saying how cool the trike was and can he have one when he's older.
Heading back through Deer Park the rain started in earnest, giving us a good soaking. It let up near Bishopsgate so we headed down towards Obelisk Lawn for a cuppa. The Obelisk was commissioned in 1765 by King George II following the death of the Duke of Cumberland.

Part of the deal for a hot chocolate was a 2nd lap of Smiths Lawn, so off we went. Just as we passed Guards Polo Club the heavens opened and with 2 miles back to the car we were very wet indeed. Still, we managed 11 miles with 640ft of climbing, so really chuffed with the lad.

Another day of unexpected but much appreciated sunshine here in soggy Somerset so I went the long way into town - had to stop to take off my jacket which put a huge smile on my face. Actually, everyone was smiling. The elderly couple trying to persuade their Scooby-doo dog that he really did want to get into the car. The kids having a great time unblocking road drains with large sticks. The guy driving a tractor who pulled over to give me the right of way and gave me a massive thumbs up. All the families and dog walkers on the canal tow path. The woman driving the rather expensive looking car who stopped to let me cross the road (I'd been there for a while). Good times.

I finally got out on my bike today after a month off due to being knackered from work, miserable and having rubbish weather. I looked at the bbc weather forecast for our area and it said cloudy, not raining and a balmy 7 degrees. On the strength of this I rode from home to the N&N hospital to meet the OH from dialysis. 8.33 miles in 35:34 which is not too shoddy bearing in mind my love of cake and not cycling to burn it off. At least the Giant didn't groan audibly when I got on him - I was concerned about that.

It felt great and I will try harder to get out again soon.

Late post of some photos (just figured out how) from my ride to Chew Stoke the other day:

Ah, lovely, lovely sun!

The water I might try, but the sign I chose not to ignore.

Only about 40km, but with 1,271' of climbing according to Strava (still getting used to these newfangled apps). And next time I'll try to include my bike in some shots, but this time I really didn't feel like tip-toeing around mud with my cleats.

Since i have not been out for a decent ride this year due to the weather, I thought that as it was not going to rain today and it was my day off a nice 25 mile potter would start the year off proper.

Planned a nice backroads route from Chard to the ridge that runs along the southern edge of the Somerset Levels, then to cut across the main Taunton to Chard / South Coast Road and follow the backl lanes around and back home.

Bit nippy 1st thing but set off in reasonable bright conditions and although the roads are still very wet and flooded in some places it wasn't to bad

Made it up to the ridge and looked down over the edge of the Levels.

Burrowbridge, the place shown on TV is roughly middle of the picture.

Roads are still gloopy

I then follows the road that runs along the top of the ridge, looking left is windy hill.

Whilst in front of me are the Blackdown hills, note the dryer road, much nicer to ride on.

Legs are a little bit weary and i really do need to get out more, but hopefully with spring getting closer the weather improving this will happen. The Cannondale 105 Disc is performing well, so just need sunshine and to lose a bit of weight to get back to doing the 40 milers that i like.
