5 mile photography excursion at daybreak, and 20 miles along the Ship Canal via Moore Nature Reserve and out to Runcorn and back this evening. Saw lots of herons and failed to get a decent pic of any. As usual!

16.5 mile pre-breakfast ride this morning. Left at 6.30 back at 7.30, a stunning morning fresh, cool and bright, long may it last. Today is the first time I have done a pre- breakfast ride, I read somewhere that it burns off fat reserves, so I shall do some more early rides...we shall see.

Went around Bewl Bridge reservoir. ******** hard. Went reasonably well considering lack of miles after an accident. Too hot really, used four litres of water on the way round. The winter mud has dried too quickly leaving soem parts looking like a lava flow.

My Cross-Bike is in a state, covered in dust, needs a major bit of TLC.

The signage around Bewl is either useless or non-existent. You need some form of GPS.

Spin round the Cheshire Lanes with a mate. He had to hang on for grim death to my rear wheel and whenever he lost my slipstream he disappeared backwards at a rate. I have a tendency to accelerate very hard out of bends, turns and up hills which gave him an interesting ride. In deference to his lack of fitness I planned in a two-pint pub stop and finished the route 10 minutes from his house. That left me with 10 miles alone to get home.

I fear he will be doing some secret training sessions...

Just a leisurely ride to work today, if I get away in time I might go for a proper ride tonight.
Managed to get out on that evening ride (just under 38miles). The speed profile of the middle section (Being paranoid I dont like showing publicly the bits that start/end at my flat) show prett accurately my night. Cruised down at 15mph for 2 miles to the start of the H&H; held on for 5.5miles (took too many turns at the front and the bloke behind never came through and didn't tell me he wasnt  and I wasted too much energy sprinting to close the gap); I then got drop but got swallowed up by the faster pack held that for a bit but fell of after I went through! then did the remaining 9 or 10 miles on my own (quite happy though I managed to maintain a reasonable speed then without totally capitulating the flat terrain helped.

That link doesn't go to your speed profile - just thought I'd mention.;)

Last night I got the bike out the garage to find a 'prick perforated pneumatic pipe', p-word for short, fixed that. Cycled 8 miles to meet a friend with his shiny, new Triban 3a, then we decided to go over the Humber Bridge, up and over the west-side shared use path. My mate, not being so good on the hills (ramps leading up/down to the bridge paths) complained and I suggested that we stay on that side and just turn around - 'oh no, I'll just follow you'. Down and under the bridge we went, onto a road, I pointed out that the path seemed to be on the other side of the fence, but there was a gate closed so thought no more about it.

Ah, shhhhhhhhhyte! This road leads onto the A15 across the bridge - 'Let's just risk it, it'll be fine' said my mate. Just before reaching the north tower my back wheel felt funny - I put it down to the road surface, but not for long, soon it was apparent it was another p-word. No probs, we'll just drop onto the path from here. Now those that haven't seen it, the road is separated from the path with a slope about 6' in height, it's a very slippery slope particularly in cleated shoes. Eventually I got down safely and the two bikes followed, then my mate. Replaced the tube and used my CO2 cartridge to fill it - first time and it worked perfectly, well worth the money!

So all fixed and packed away again we continued our journey on the east-side path heading south. Mostly. It was very quiet, in fact we'd seen nobody on this side at all, turns out that path was closed off at both ends with a big gate that we had to negotiate - again not great in cleated shoes so I took them off and posted them under, then a little gate that was much easier.

Heading back home out of Barton it was getting dark, thankfully I had my Knog Frogs fitted (and forgotten till then!) so they went on, maybe I should've changed my lenses at this point too. Oh well. Dropped off my mate and then cycled home for a total of just over 40 miles.

Today's ride started off with a frog round up: we have hundreds of them everywhere at the moment and no-one knows where they have come from, there was no frog spawn in my landlady's ponds or stream this year (at least I think they are frogs, but happy to stand corrected.)
The first hurdle was to get to my bike without squashing or standing on any thumbnail sized frogs... yesterday I rounded up 10 of them, today I lost count, but it was +20 which led me onto the wondering what the collective noun for frogs is (army, colony or a knot of frogs unless they are toads, in which case I can only have a knot of toads).

Otherwise the ride was slightly longer, slightly slower, seemily much warmer, drivers just as considerate as yesterday giving me loads of room and being really patient... but mission accomplished - repeat prescritpion now at chemists.... it has only taken +40 miles of cycling over 2 days at the hottest time of day (today's hold up was waiting for a delivery driver....) - just maybe tomorrow I will be able to get out when it is slightly cooler. http://app.strava.com/activities/67767852

So pictures - the round up of a knot of frogs. I like that collective noun.
