Had another ride up to Teggs Nose to help the Rangers rebuild a dry stone wall.As ever the weather is still amazing but a tad warm on such a long ride in the hills.Took a different route home and used the Middlewood Way up to the outskirts of Stockport and then headed down the Trans Pennine Trail along the River Mersey which linked the Bridgewater way along the canal and onwards home.

Today we had a gap of 3 and a bit hours between dog walks so we took the MTBs on the new Aldi car rack and did a spot of riding to pass the time.
We started off at the Taverham car park on the Marriotts Way and cycled to Whitwell Station and then had to do a mile or two on the road to get on to the Themelthorpe Loop part of the Marriotts as there are a lot of Badger setts about and they have shut about a mile of it so people don't disturb the badgers or fall in the setts. You just know that some idiot will climb in one to see what's down there!
We followed the Marriotts to Reepham Station where Hubby suggested a sarnie and a cuppa. £12.60  first and last time we ever stop there for a butty. £12.60 for 2 cheese sarnies and 2 black coffees. That cafe is for rich people I reckon. I should have known better than to let Hubby suggest a touristy place. £4.25 for a bit of cake - we didn't bother.
From there we cycled through Reepham and back to Whitwell Station by road and then back to the car the way we had come. I carried on for another 1/4 mile and then came back, as we were just shy of 20 miles and it seemed rude to stop at 19.6miles. Moving time was about 2 1/4 hours, we were not in a hurry and did lots of slow bits as we were passing interesting things. It was a lovely sunny day and it seemed a shame to blast along the trail and not enjoy the scenary.

From there we went back to work, dog walking for 30 minutes and came home.

The Spesh is on the bike stand being cleaned - I didn't know that he had a red jockey wheel. I also didn't realise that he was quite that filthy  I can't wait to see how much filth comes off Hubby's Giant.

I don't know what to say.Shadwell Leeds to scarborough 79 miles.Weather crap no sunshine till we got on the train back, got through York to Stamford Bridge with no problems, apart from a pillock of a bus driver who came across me when i had right of way,he then went through a red light on a crossing nearly taking out a family, the husband was very upset, but i failed to get the bus details.
Got a little lost between Octon and Thwing not enough sign posts. Also From Burton Fleming it's a steady rise. And we got onto the A 165 at Hunmamby because we were fed up.
Nice lttle stay in Scarborough where i bought two cycle lapel badges, and had a good meal pie peas and chips plus two lattes.
I don't know if i really enjoyed it,to be honest.

I was in Scarborough on a cricket tour last weekend and I drove back through most of those villages to avoid 6 mile queue on the A64. Some lovely countryside and Stamford Bridge looked like a place that warranted a nice stroll around.

took a couple of hours skived off work early this afternoon and did 44 miles in the :sun:up into the South Cotswolds. It was baking hot and the temptation to jump into the river at Malmesbury was great indeed but resisted.

Ride was only spoiled slightly by an attack of killer flies when I stopped briefly to check my phone. Other than that a perfect few cycling hours

Day off today so a nice sunny 26 miler.

First - out across the fen, along a few farm tracks to a local bike shop at a place called Horningsea to look for a new steed for my father in-law, but I fell slightly inlove with a Dawes Galaxy there for me instead- only a grand or so.

Then, across the river (Cam), to a riverside pub in Clayhithe for lunch with Mrs G who drove there. Top pub- and quite a few there on bikes.

Then we parted and I headed off across the fen. After Clayhithe, where I crossed back to the east side of the river, the riverside path is great on a sunny day.

Your own sense of place is a funny thing. I always feel slightly weird being west of the river Cam/Ouse. It contains 'foreign' places like Bedfordshire, Cornwall and America. But on the east side, I feel at home, This is where familiar places like Norfolk lie. Places where I feel I am at home.

Anyway, having crossed back to the eastern side of the river, I rejoined familair territory on the Lodes Way.

A bit further along, I thought I'd try an arty pic of my bike on Reach Lode Bridge. I failed, but I quite like it.

It was in the 80's by now so my feet were ready for a cool dip

(Sorry Fish!)
The need for tea was becoming insatiable, so Wicken Fen Cafe provided the necessary goods. 2 mugs, (and a little cherry cake), only just enough..

Then home over Reach Lode (below). 26 miles or so in total. Should really be doing a few longer rides but the 80 degree heat is my excuse.

Did 40-ish miles in the sun. Got visited twice by the puncture fairy's vengeful sister, the badly-applied patch fairy. Also got told to wind my neck in by another cyclist, after I declined his offer of help in seemingly a too-friendly manner. Bit weird to be honest.

On the positive side my legs felt good and my tan lines are awesome.

Well that was different despite it being the same route! We were only a couple of miles down the road and hiss (one bloke had a pture). Once fixed he noticed the tube bulging out of the side wall; one brand new Conti GP4000s written off  Its happened to me twice with brand new Conti GPs; I'm loosing faith in Continental, despite their roll, grip being great and tread p'ture resistance being good their side walls are cr@p.
Despite the rural route we encountered a moron in a car too. I think the back of the pack (only about 7 of us so not really a big pack) held him up by 2seconds. I was at the front and the muppet deliberately swerved in on me.
We had other occasional close fast passes (despite the roads being empty, maybe it was the heat).
The pack split up after that and another and me were cruising in when a car pulled up beside us, at first I thought they were giving us a lecture about riding two abreast (I was on the inside), then I realised what she was saying 'a rider had been hit'. So we doubled back and it sprung to mind I hadnt seen a rider for a while, 'D', then after a mile not seeing him, it hit 'sh1t its him' and I sprinted to him, fortunately there were a lot of well organised individuals around him ringing for the ambulance, controlling traffic etc And a few minutes later a paramedic arrived and a doctor conveniently passing (not called).
Took a while for the ambulance to arrive though and despite seeking shade I nearly blacked out, poor D was lying in the sunshine fortunately despite looking a mess he remained chirpy throughout.
Didnt push hard on the 6 miles home but fortunately I felt better, I hope D gets well soon too!

Nightmare day out. Hope your mate makes a swift recovery. Sympathy to the guy with the blown tyre too. I've had that happen.

Got up and out this morning hoping to avoid the worst of the heat and I guess we did but it was still too hot. Took a casual ride into Delamere forest via blackberry alley (where I get all my blackberries from) but today it was more like scratch & sting alley (brambles & nettles almost completely across the bridgepath). It needs cutting back, I may take a walk this evening with some secateurs - it will save my legs, arms & face from any more stings & scratches if we go out again tomorrow (much earlier - think around dawn might just avoid the +30C temps we have had today).

Despite taking it really easy, not clock/speed watching or even caring about time, (my asthma has been playing up badly the last few days), I was still exhausted on my return home. Recovery could take a long time! http://app.strava.com/activities/66804827 (sorry no photos, just too hot and exhausted to be bothered)

Up early today to get a ride in before the heat did it's worst. I set off just after 6am, to do an easy(ish) 35 miler out to the edge of the North Pennines and then cut over to Hadrian's Wall and follow that for a bit on the way back to Carlisle.

Piccy of the day is of Toppin Castle silhouetted in the early morning light...
