Just a short ride today as a shakedown for the bike after servicing the wheel bearings yesterday. Into town, round The Quarry, and out to Uffington via the old canal path before heading to Atcham, Condover and home.

The Quarry was very pleasant as always, with quite a few people out enjoying the :sun: but the road from Uffington to Atcham was rather busier than I'm used to as there had been "a police incident" which had closed the A5 and a lot of people were using the Atcham road as a rat run to avoid the queues. I felt slightly smug when I was able to filter past everyone who'd overtaken me in the queue at the end of the road.:shy: Less smug when I found out someone had died in the "incident".

The rest of the trip was uneventful and I finished up with a tally of 18.7 miles at 14.7mph average.

Work is underway fixing the towpath that collapsed during floods over a year ago.

It's a wee bit busy at Atcham.

Drinkies by the river at the Mytton & Mermaid. I expect the place will be pretty crowded later.
Like the pics not the accident though

The accident was someone falling off a bridge over the dual carriageway. Very sad.

I don't know what to say.Shadwell Leeds to scarborough 79 miles.Weather crap no sunshine till we got on the train back, got through York to Stamford Bridge with no problems, apart from a pillock of a bus driver who came across me when i had right of way,he then went through a red light on a crossing nearly taking out a family, the husband was very upset, but i failed to get the bus details.
Got a little lost between Octon and Thwing not enough sign posts. Also From Burton Fleming it's a steady rise. And we got onto the A 165 at Hunmamby because we were fed up.
Nice lttle stay in Scarborough where i bought two cycle lapel badges, and had a good meal pie peas and chips plus two lattes.
I don't know if i really enjoyed it,to be honest.

Just got in from another local pathfinding, this time trying to put it all into some semblance of a flowing ride. One thing that's always bothered me is that I live at about 1300 feet. That has meant every ride starts with an epic descent and a cruel slog back home. This series of rides I have been stitching together starts high, drops a bit but then climbs back, has some flat bits and some descents, but none losing 1000 feet in one go like some starts I do round here. So, I created the figure 8 trail I had envisaged, putting the best bits in and stopping to get a few pics this evening. I met a couple walking a brace of hooligan Jackapoos up at Cupwith, and the cheeky moorland singletrack to Coal Gate was an absolute epic in the fading light. Glad to be alive. Big Black Dog? Not this week.

Met up with a mate who, after a few rides with him on his mountain bike and me on my road bike, had seen the light. He told me that he had picked up a road bike from a relative for £300. My jaw dropped when he rode up on a nearly-new Scott Speedster with Tiagra groupset. What a bargain!

Anyway I set off at a brisk pace (a sprint actually) and he stayed glued to my rear wheel on the main road. Hmm. New tactics needed so I turned off into the hills. I like to think that I'm pretty fair at climbing. Soon my many miles started to show and he was struggling. We stopped at the Ship in Wincle for a beer and watched several people go by on their blingy roadsters. I joked to Kevin that we could give them five minutes lead and still catch them before they reached the main road (it's a long hard climb). This turned out to be half true as I did catch them. I waited quite a while for Kevin to catch up though. He got his own back on the way down as I am rubbish at descending; only the last flat straight bit saved me where sheer power came into play and he admitted defeat.

Nice ride. 29 miles. 2800ft ascent. Warm.

Just a slow recovery ride for me last night (14.1mph for 37.5 miles). I mostly succeded in keping my hr low but to join up lovely sections rural roads, I had to go along a narrow section of the A47, where a hgv tried to mow me down (=brown trousers and might try the 15mile diversion the next time, the A1 gets in the way and I definitely wouldn't cycle that  ) and back in town where a car patiently waited behind me and I felt obliged to up the pace.

quick hour and half to town to collect 'drugs' from pharmacy !! (ashma pump etc !!) left home at 8.30 am - lovely morning i should have done more but only had 1 bottle of water and no money to buy another  far too hot to go out again, managed a couple of hills/inclines that i have struggled with before :becool:
Even took dogs out at 6am for an hour !!
Hi. I see that you are in rural France from other posts. Have you considered filling your water bottles from springs or sources, or from small toilet blocks in or near local maries? I do that all the time when riding in SW France and I also have iodone tablets in the saddle bag for treating spring water.

56 miles in almost perfect conditions this morning - warm and hardly a breath of wind. Left the house just after 6 and heading up to EK before continuing through the lane to Newton Mearns then down the A77, back over the Balliegeoch then through Eaglesham before heading to my favourite wee café in Strathaven. A quick coffee and a scrambled egg roll before heading home. Back in the house for 9.45

Jealous.com, it was grey first thing here and I only did a short 5.5miles (that was more due to my laziness than weather) but it looks perfect now, totally blue sky and a light 2-5mph breeze warm 19-21deg C (according to the met) but not quite the heatwave forecast for the weekend.

Not a happy bunny !!! left nice and early loads of water, banana and cake. Everything going wel,l roads up and down, with more going downhill that up, Just cycled where ever i saw an interesting road. At about 25Km back started to hurt, so stopped for banana break and painkiller. After another 5 or so Km decided to return home as back wasnt feeling much better and i knew i had the uphills !!! Gears on bike decided not to change down to little cog for hills, whatever i did it still wouldnt change and a couple of times it actually came off, with my back hurting like hell, and trying to get up hills on higher gears wasnt helping. Finally got home after 5 hours - so in all 5 hours to do 60Km
Now resting !!! photos to follow

25miles of exploring today. Took in Wetherall, worked out I can't cycle the river Eden, almost made it to Armathwaite but got distracted by a forest along the way. Ended up in Cotehill, sitting on the roadside eating a sarnie with a horse for company. Stopped off at the animal refuge -which was surprisingly devoid of animals, but they did have very cold fanta, which was nice and made it back to Carlisle in around 3 hours. And just in time for a pub lunch with Mr6.
I did take photos but I'm blowed if I can work out how to get them onto here.
