A hilly 50 miles taking in Holmfirth, Langsett, Holmfirth, Meltham and Marsden.

This made me sweat a bit.

Well finally out and about in Fuertaventura, rental bike is great the riding is better the roads are (so far) well surfaced and the climbs oh the climbs they perfect and painful at the same time. The air is thin and makes em hard going but really rewarding I ain't so keen on the descents though what with the bike being left hand drive(front brake on the left) can't get the photos off me phone so will sort it when home

With the weather being so nice it was a 'stick the MTB on the roof and go somewhere day' today.. so off I went to Keilder, for a ride round the lake. And what a pleasant ride it was. There were surprisingly few people around, and the vast majority of those few were going the other way so it felt like I had the place to myself .

All told the Lakeside Trial is 25miles of very well maintained compacted stone track round with 2200ft ascent... and Mr GPS tells me I averaged 10.5mph

Obligatory lunch stop photo...

Ok....not much surprises me when it comes to car drivers...but having a chavvy oik wave his Weiner at me out of the passenger window just now on lancing seafront is a new one.

What is wrong with these idiots?

125km with 1460m of ascent round the quiet back roads and lanes of south Lanarkshire. Warm and sunny but a strong south westerly wind. Rode most of it at tempo (HR zone 3) so feeling at wee bit tired now. Easy ride tomorrow morning then watch the tennis in the afternoon

38 miles from Lancaster down to Bilsborrow on Route 6, and back via the canal tow path ... had a nice pub lunch and a pint at Bilsborrow, and was only £5.50 for cheese burger, chips and salad... I thought i'd pedalled back to the nineties!

The ride back along the canal tow path was nice as I'm unfamiliar with that stretch... but I'll avoid it in future... too many deaf people who don't hear my bell the first time, or the second time, or the third time... then ignore my first two excuse me's until I'm right behind them and stationary, saying "Excuse me please".... only then then do they realise that the pinging noise wasn't a moorhen, and the 'excuse me' noise wasn't a duck... then there's a barge lot, with their folding chairs and picnic blankets taking up the entire width of the tow path... even a bloody gazebo spanning it... that was like cycling through somebody's sitting room... plus, 18 miles of flat is a bit boring... so although nice and pleasant with ducks, ducklings, swans, signets and herons, the canal tow path on a hot & sunny Saturday isn't ideal for cycling.

About 2.5 hours out with the wife, a mix of cycle path, country paths, the odd country road, a sit down at the riverside locks for a half hour with a sandwich, a tub of mixed fruit and a drink , watch the fish breaking the surface and loads of damsel fly flitting around...and bees carrying small bright green leaves down a hole two feet from where I was sat.. Positively lovely, watch the boaters do their stuff, see a yellow wagtail (ages since I saw one of those) and the ever present red kite floating overhead.

Didn't even break into a sweat.

Put a request out through my local club for a mid paced ride (somewhere quicker than the novice pace to get me up to their intermediate level). It was answered by one of the more experienced guys in thw club and 4 of us went out. 3 of ua increased our average speed by 2mph over 30 miles. Lovely weather, lovely scenery. Just a great ride!
