Just chickened out of a ride today, heavy bursts of rain coming from nowhere, & temperature dropped down somewhat.
Would have to wear a waterproof again.......English Summers, don't you just love them.

Travelled from Harlow through the lanes to the start of the Fitch Way, a former railtrack now turned into a country walk/riding route. I travelled along the Fitch Way to the Great Dunmow end. At one point the track turns sharp left then up and over a bank. I generally ride over the bank but for some reason this morning my legs stalled near the top. I just couldn't get over. I put a foot down but just slipped on the loose surface, and with both brakes on hard I just slid backwards down the hill. Almost at the bottom I was mentally congratulating myself for keeping upright when the bike slipped out and I hit the ground like a sack of spuds. I have just got over one bad back and now it is hurting again. I rode home to Harlow, about 17 miles or so, so although a bit stiff obviously not much really wrong. The bike's OK as well, the panniers protected the gears.

Coming back down the B184 I had a brisk tail wind and really flew. I hardly dropped below 20 mph between Dunmow and Fyfield. I wish I could ride like that when there is no wind to do half the work for me!

I did my furthest ride to date yesterday,,.. 26.8 miles, so thought I would go out today as well, what a mistake that was my legs hurt right from the off, I was about to start a second loop, and I had to turn back , I wouldn't have made it, should have rested my legs today I think, never mind, be back out in the morning feeling better I hope, but hey I'm not getting any younger either.

55 miles in the summer sun. 21C and sunny - the only drawback was a stiff north easterly headwind on the way home. Still it was a great afternoon to be out on the bike

6.14 steady miles. My legs were aching and tomorrow is my day off riding as I have to start work at 8am in Norwich and should finish just in time to take himself to dialysis then go home to feed and walk the hounds.

We just poddled around locally, tried to check out a trail to ride down but the trail vanished and we were wading hip deep in brambles, long grass with ninja nettles that stung us when we were not looking. Gave up and rode back the way we had come and then added a bit extra on for luck.

Beautiful day here today, so decided to have an away day and do a route I have done before by motorbike, but this time on a Specialized Secteur. So, bike into boot of car and headed to the start point in Moffat, about 85 miles away. By midday I was ready for the off, and headed north east into a bit of a gentle breeze and mostly uphill to Grey Mare's Tail, a waterfall between Moffat and St Marys Loch. I can't think how they managed to come up with the name ^_^:

Further on was St Marys Loch:

On the west side of the Loch, I turned left to head west, expecting a tail wind. Ha ha, no chance! The breeze must have moved to the north west just as I turned the corner . Then the REAL climbing began, but worth it for views like these: (none of the photos are mine; camera was in the car ).

These are the Megget and Talla reservoirs, which supply Edinburgh and district with fresh water.

The road along the reservoirs goes on for about 11 miles until you reach Tweedsmuir and join the A701 which is the main road between Edinburgh and Moffat. Although a main road, it carries relatively light traffic, just the odd logging lorry and fast car to keep you on your toes.

From Tweedsmuir to Moffat is about 14 miles, and after reaching the Devils Beef Tub it is a nice 5 miles downhill into Moffat.

By the time I got back to Moffat the legs had almost gone; 45 hilly miles on porridge, a bacon and egg roll, and a Mars bar is not a good idea! First stop was for food before the drive home. A good route, thoroughly recommended but only in good weather. It's a bleak horrible place in the rain!

Should have got up early but didn't so had to make do with a short 13.9 miles. Very breezy out there this morning in Hampshire, so a bit slower than I would've liked. Going down hill in Upton Grey lots of cyclists coming up the hill all over the road. Made a couple of wrong turns which ended up shortening the ride  and only 700ft of climbing. Must try harder next weekend. Some hills that I struggled before with now only feel like slight inclines.
